The kind that actually makes you feel put-together without trying.

Spent the last 6 months obsessing over something most people overlook: the perfect men’s t-shirt. Not the hypebeast drops or the fast-fashion $5 specials.

Here’s what I learned after testing 40+ shirts from different brands.

Fit is everything. A boxy cut hides your frame. Too slim makes you look uncomfortable. The sweet spot? A tailored shoulder seam that hits right at the edge, with a slight taper through the torso. Not tight, just intentional.

Fabric matters more than the tag. 100% cotton isn’t always better. Look for ringspun cotton or a cotton-poly blend if you want it to hold shape after washes. The "hand feel" – how soft it is against your skin – determines if you’ll actually wear it.

Collar shape dictates the whole outfit. A ribbed crewneck stands up on its own and works under an open button-down. A wide scoop or V-neck? Better for layering with a jacket. Pick based on your daily rotation.

The biggest lesson: a great t-shirt is the unsung hero of your wardrobe. It’s the base layer for everything else. When the base is right, every outfit looks effortless.

We actually put this into practice with our men’s tees collection at Frishay. Focused on modern cuts, high-quality ringspun cotton, and versatile fits that don’t scream “look at me.” Just solid, everyday comfort. Check it out if you’re tired of shirts that pill after three washes.

That's a great point. I've found that early user feedback can be brutal but it's the fastest way to improve the product's core value proposition.

Love the persistence! Building in public has really helped me stay accountable too. What's been the most surprising lesson so far?

Interesting approach. How do you handle the trade-off between shipping fast and maintaining code quality in the early stages?
