The less problematic way to get AI generated essays: EasyOutlines

Hey Y'all!

I had been trying to scratch the itch of not just building something, but building something useful and of actual value. I had toyed with chatGPT for minor things and much like everyone else, I saw the potential in getting it to write long form content of all kinds for users.

Being a student myself, I wanted to build a solution to a problem I myself have faced countless times: essays.

Turns out chatGPT is not too great at coming up with new ways to write hundreds if not thousands of words on the same topic a bunch of times (mimicking multiple students asking it to write an essay on the same topic, for instance). Over multiple attempts I found most of the content to be duplicated or regurgitated badly enough to stand out like a sore thumb.

I then realized another way to go about it to ensure minimal plagiarism while providing something of value at a fast pace to users would be to do the harder parts of writing essays for them, while letting them do the actual writing.

The hardest parts of writing essays are:

  1. Coming up with a thesis.

  2. Figuring out what to write for a specific thesis (aka the outline of the essay including examples from sources)

Luckily chatGPT is surprisingly good at both these things. Thus, EasyOutlines took shape in my mind. An essay thesis and outline generator that does the research for you and provides you with more than enough content to get a great head start on your writing assignments (since editing existing text is much easier than typing from scratch on a blank screen). Since the user ends up having to write the essay themselves, they inevitable end up lending their own style of writing to it which helps ensure nothing is overtly plagiarized.

I'd love to have anyone reading this give it a shot and let me know what they think!

PS, the web app has no user signups, no email capturing and no personal data collection since that was always a design pattern I disliked using other one-off tools.

This is the first time I'm "launching" something, so would love some advice on how to get this in the hands of more users. I have ideas on how to improve it but I think getting it into the hands of users is more important for now.

Thank you for taking the time!
