What we have now is silos - breaking that down will create something new. Try looking beyond what we have now and hopefully see something more, something new, something bigger, something different. Look forward at new opportunities.
Alternatively stay safe and cynical with current the status quo and stagnate. It’s up to you, the individual, the creator, the visionary how you interpret what’s happening right now. Be cynical and look at the future through the lens of scarcity or be open and try to see a new paradigm a new way to create, consume, proposer. It’s up to us how this plays out. If you’re not onboard stand aside while we get on with creating the future. 👍
We have silos because Facebook and most other social media companies choose to make their platforms walled gardens with proprietary and closed protocols instead of using open protocols.
There are great initiatives like Matrix and Mastodon that try to break down the silos, today. We don't need VR for that.
I'm a huge VR proponent and I'm all for breaking down silos, but if you think that calling it the "metaverse" and putting Facebook in charge of creating a better future, you're way off the mark.
What’s been described is not just VR and it’s not FB “in charge”. It’s interoperability between things like VR, AR, mobile as we know it now.
Think bigger, would be my suggestion.
That said, right now we have nothing concrete so who knows. You can either be optimistic, pessimistic, ambivalent etc. I’m choosing the first.
