The Missing Piece in Law of Attraction (Day 386)

Being a skeptic on almost all things, I am the annoying person who asks why and how all the time.

So when it comes to a "leap of faith" kind of conviction, it never ends well with me. I attended a Christian high school in Hong Kong where most of my friends are christians; when I asked my teachers many questions that they do not have answers, they would tell me that I should "just have faith when in doubt". And I ended up reading the book "Why am I not a Christian" by Bertrand Russell where I seem to find more answers than questions.

I have a similar problem with the "law of attraction." While I love the positivity in how you should always "believe", but there is a big disconnect somewhere from "believe" to "achieve". Simply wanting something and believing youcan get it--the faith and positivity alone aren't enough.

My personal view is that after knowing what we want, let's say, you want to have a promotion in your job, you want to have wealth and health, you want to have a romantic relationship with someone, instead of just yearning wanting hoping basking in positive thinking, we cannot skip the "how" part--which would always lead back to the "what it takes".

To have a promotion, what kind of achievement you need in your current position? And what does it take to get there? If you want to have a romantic relationship with a certain kind of persons, you first need to know what qualities they want in order to be attracted and needed for forming such a romantic feeling. It's not what you want, it's what they want and what does it take for you to get there.

(Reminds me of a great book: "Words that work -- it's not what you say, it's what people hear!")

With the population today, anything is possible. Yes, every week there are people winning lotto. But is that something you can aim for? There are many traders who want to become Warren Buffett, but is that a career path anybody can really copy? The circumstances change, the context moves, and the paradigm shifts. Past success strategies can guarantee future success no more.

While it's inspiring to learn from the greats, and there are repeatable patterns--like deliberate practices, mastery paths one can follow--we have to succeed with our own unique circumstances, unique strength, and that is more dependable than luck.

One of my colleague actually holds a regular "overnight wealth" talk on Clubhouse. The talk invites many successful crypto investors, entrepreneurs, and influencers, etc. You'll notice there's no shortage of participants in such rooms. To become successful nowadays, communities rule. Influences are powerful. But is that a dependable strategy? Because there are people succeeded down that path would it make it something repeatable? It really depends on what is your value system.

I believe in building the fundamentals, building something that has potential market and proven value, something may take time to achieve. I don't believe in overnight success. I don't believe the law of attraction without taking real hard work and sacrifices. I believe in asking "what does it take..." questions, and there is no cutting corners.

The missing piece is doing. The law of attraction is a principle, like the law of gravity. It's always there, it's always working. But you have to do something to make it work for you. You have to act on what you want and believe that you can have it.

So many people forget this part and just sit around waiting for their dreams to come true. But if you want something bad enough, you'll find a way to make it happen. You'll take action and do whatever it takes to get what you want. And that's when the law of attraction will start working in your favor and help bring your dreams into reality.
