The one hour project - Week 2

Hello everyone šŸ‘‹
First full week of this project! I think Iā€™ve made some good progress this week. I feel like I am very productive within this hour I am setting for myself, which is kinda awesome. I have had days where I could have gone more than an hour. But I am trying very much to keep it within the 1 hour mark.

Day 1 (6/1)
Started working on user authentication, and designed a simple sign up, login and reset password page. Will continue tomorrow.

Day 2 (7/1)
Wrapped up some of the initial work on a sign up page and a login page. Had some trouble getting the password reset functionality to send an email locally. Will try to read up on it and see if Iā€™ve set everything up correctly.

Day 3 (8/1)
Did not do any work as such today. Attended a local Ruby meetup and had some good conversations and a few beers.

Day 4 (9/1)
Tried debugging some of the password reset functionality to see if I could get it working. Fiddled around with it a bit, but ultimately decided to leave it for now, and focus on functionality for the beta test instead of ā€œnitty grittyā€ stuff. Also added a simple initial dashboard page that requires authentication in order to access.

Day 5 (10/1)
We were invited to dinner at some friends, so didnā€™t work on the project today

Day 6 (11/1)
Started on some layouting for the dashboard page. I would like an initial page that the user lands on when he/she logs into their dashboard. The idea here is to create a ā€œquick overviewā€ view-kinda page. Made some easy navigation, very inspired by Twitter. Would like some neat icons that are not Font Awesome. Any suggestions?

Day 7 (12/1)
Started adding some code that handles adding links to a user and their profiles. So far I am able to display all links a user has from within their dashboard, and they are able to create new ones. I have initially added the possibility to add a title and a url to a link. Very simple. Considering adding the option to select a custom background color for a link, and setting a custom icon. This is where Font Awesome might come in handy after all..

Thanks for following along this week. Check out https://vbio.io/ if you want to be notified when vBio is ready for beta testing.

Let me know if you have any comments or questions, if not Iā€™ll see yā€™all next week! šŸ’Ŗ

Very interesting, Mads! May I ask if there's any specific reason why you're limiting yourself to one hour? And since many are struggling with getting productive right away, do you do anything that helps getting you focussed quickly?

      Hey!
The primary reason why I am limiting my self is because I have a busy full time job, two kids and a wife. So that alone limits my actual time.
Also I think itā€™s an interesting challenge for others to maybe be inspired by, who also canā€™t allocate a lot of time to a side project.

Before getting down to the actual hour, I tend to think about what I want to do, and what I believe is realistic within the timeframe. So I ā€œmicro-planā€ my ā€œmicro-sprintā€ in my head šŸ˜†
