There's a single question that predicts course sales better than any landing page test, keyword tool, or audience survey I've seen:
"Have people already paid money to solve this problem?"
Not "do people have this problem." Not "do people say they'd be interested." Have they paid — for a book, a coach, a workshop, a competitor's course, even a bad solution they abandoned?
Why this question works:
The failure mode this question catches: "Everyone struggles with X" ideas. Everyone struggles with productivity, mornings, motivation. But if nobody in your target group has ever paid to fix it, you're not launching a product — you're launching a persuasion campaign against human nature. Those take years and budgets most indie creators don't have.
Where to check in 30 minutes:
And once the answer is yes, keep the validation cheap: a live pilot workshop on a commission-only platform (iLoquio, Payhip — $0/month, ~5% per sale) costs nothing to test. Fixed-fee platforms make sense later, when the sales volume justifies them.
The best course ideas aren't the cleverest. They're the ones where the customer has already voted with their wallet.
