The reasons why I created the "Creator Economy" group! πŸ”₯

More than 50 million people around the world consider themselves creators, despite the creator economy only being born a decade ago. It’s become the fastest-growing type of small business, and a survey found that more American kids want to be a YouTube star (29%) than an astronaut (11%) when they grow up.

This new paradigm made me create the "Creator Economy" group on IndieHackers. I think it would be interesting to exchange about this subject and share interesting resources. If you are interested in talking further about this topic, I invited you to join this group and drop me a line in DM to introduce yourself. Also, you can leave a comment and tell me what would you like to see in this group! πŸ˜‰

I've also created this group because the past week, young TikTok star Charli D'amelio, aged only 18, surpassed the 100 million subscribers on the TikTok platform. It took almost 10 years for PewDiePie to surpassed this milestone on Youtube. The success of the D'amelio family, with the two sisters Charli (100M subscribers) and Dixie (43M subscribers), serves as an example for a whole generation that grew up with social networks. Another example, Kylie Jenner, a beauty and lifestyle influencer, became the youngest billionaire thanks to her brand Kylie Cosmetics, which she promotes to her more than 200 million fans on Instagram. The line between the business world and that of hobbies seems also finer and finer with creators such as the YouTuber MrBeast who appears in the very famous ranking Forbes 30 under 30.

When years ago, few contents had to satisfy a large number of people, today anyone can create niche content and find their audience to share their knowledge and passions with the world. This paradigm shift is crystallized by the "Creator Economy", the term that defines all creators (YouTubers, Influencers, podcasters ...) who create a way to earn a living by using the new tools at their disposal, without spending through the traditional route.

The rules of the game seem to have changed, especially due to the impact of the Corona Virus, and more and more creators may well be able to live off their passion. Many big companies, like Snapchat, have understood the growing interest of the new generation to make a living from their passions and have taken the bet to help these creators achieve their dreams. The last decade has seen a handful of stars appear on the Internet, and it is now time for a much larger part of the population to become creators. All the lights are now on the green to see the rise of the "Creator Economy". πŸ”₯
