The secret of great product designers

You’ve designed a user flow for your product, but you have no clue if it’s good enough. You think that great designers are very confident about their work and that they know everything.

This is false. They may have a lot of knowledge and a trained eye for detail, but their confidence is not as high as you may think. The main difference between you and them is that they know how to develop their confidence for every design they create.

And guess what. You can do it as well! You have this secret power and you can become a great designer too.

How? By allowing yourself to be vulnerable. By chasing feedback and by testing your designs. This way you’ll transform your doubts and insecurities into learnings and insights.

“Will users be able to signup with the flow I designed? Will they get confused? Will they hate my UI?” - All these doubts are beautiful scenarios you can test.

If you have all these doubts, you should be proud of yourself. It means you are a humble and grounded person. You see, arrogance is one of the worst enemies of product design. You don’t know everything and that’s great. Nobody does.

So here is an idea for you. Design something in 4 hours and ask somebody to use it. Ask them to describe you what they think and how they feel. Go out there and build your design confidence through testing.

Always happy to throw up a quick design and user-test before committing further. Just did it this weekend and it helped immensely.

P.S. There's a small formatting issue in the post due to the space before the two asterisks. You might want to remove it.
