The startup CEO's only job

A startup CEO has 1 job:

Get people to believe your vision.

The best CEOs have stories to help them.

Here are the 7 steps to building a legendary story for your startup:

You might be thinking:

Why should I learn how to tell stories?

Because your number 1 job is storytelling. Communication is why people buy, invest or work for you. And storytelling is the core of communication.

Step #1: The Problem That Must Be Solved

Describe someone in your life that had a problem.

How did it impact you?

First, relate to your audience (everyone has overcome problems).

Then inspire them with the story of you building a business to solve that problem.

Step #2: The Emotional Turmoil

What internal conflict did you endure because of the problem in step 1?

What feelings did you have?

Describing the emotions you felt helps build empathy with your audience.

Everyone feels emotions.

Step #3: The External Pressures

Were you laughed at?

Did you run out of money?

Did you fail 100 times?

External struggles create an underdog.

And people want the underdog to win.

Step #4: The Inflection Point

What was the single event that led you to start the journey?

This can be something small that made you think.

Or maybe a life-altering event like a sick friend passing away.

This was the event that created your determination to solve the problem.

Step #5: The Ignition

The moment when everything comes together based on the inflection point.

This could be unexpected funding or a top engineer joining you on the journey.

Step #6: The Role Model

In every Disney adventure, the main character has an unexpected friend to help them.

Who's there to help light the spark?

Who's there to help you get through the internal and external struggles?

Step #7: The Outcome

This is where you are today.

You've crossed the chasm and hit escape velocity.

Of you've found product-market fit.

Or your product saves lives.

You don't need a publicist to create your brand - you need to tell stories.

Start with these 7 steps.

What's your story?
