The system I use to consistently get customers from Reddit
Reddit has been my main growth channel for the past 6 months and I've been consistently getting 100+ high-intent visitors every week.
Here's how you can do the same:
Step 1: Find high-intent posts
Look for posts where people:
ask for “a tool for ＿”
compare options / alternatives
describe a problem your product solves
You can find these posts via Google:
“best _ reddit”
“_ alternatives reddit”
“tool for _ reddit”
“how do you _ reddit”
... and inside subreddits where your target audience hangs out.
Step 2: Leave a helpful reply (no pitch)
answer the question first (specific steps > opinions)
recommend 2-3 approaches/tools (not just yours)
mention your product by name only (no link)
Step 3: Send personalized Reddit DMs
Send DM to OP and other commenters in post asking the same (they are clearly looking for a solution)
Copy/paste template:
“Hey, saw you’re ＿ (summary from post/comment). I built a tool that ＿ (tie value to their problem). Want to try it out?”
This 3-step strategy brings me 100+ high-intent visitors every week.
It works because:
these posts already have demand (people are actively looking for a solution)
replies rank on Google and compound over ~3-8 weeks
DMs create immediate 1:1 conversations with buyers

This is effective because it isn’t really a “hack” it’s simply demand harvesting. ~
A lot of people approach Reddit backwards. They show up with a product and hope to generate interest. By doing so, you are generating a lot of constructive positive engagement. That transformation changes Reddit from a risk to a filter.
There are some important things.
Prioritize high-intent posts above viral ones. The threads titled “best X,” “alternatives” and “how do I” rarely blow up but convert. Buyers reveal themselves without knowing it there.
It’s more important to reply exponentially than to reply quickly. When people provide practical steps instead of just expressing opinions, it helps to build trust quickly. Suggesting multiple tools shows you’re a part of the solution, not the problem.
DMs are effective because they build on existing dialogue. You’re not cold-pitching. You’re following up where the user already raised their hand. What others miss (and why they get banned or ignored) is the nuance.
Believing Reddit traffic is a scale issue is wrong It is all about accuracy. Ten effective conversations outperform ten thousand impressions every time.
Something other than underrated point: replies compounding via Google. The Reddit comments have slowly been becoming long-tail acquisition assets, one of the few channels where effort stacks over time.

What people seem to constantly overlook is that Reddit is not a channel for generating traffic, it is a channel for capturing demand.
You’re not persuading people that they have a problem — rather, you’re demonstrating that you’re present when they’ve already acknowledged there is a problem.

I've sent over 400 DMs at this point and never had any issues, in fact my reply rates on Reddit are ~35%.
The main reason for this is because I'm only sending to people that are explicitly asking for a tool like mine or describe problems my tool solves (so their intent matches my DM). Also I'm not sending any links in the initial DM so they have to reply if they're interested.

I know your frustration. Most founders treat Reddit as "build in public" and that's why their posts get removed for promotion. Reddit culture is a bit different when it comes to creating posts.
First, as you can see in the system I use I'm not creating posts at all, instead I'm finding my ideal customers that have explicitly showed interest in a tool like mine and reach out to them either via DMs or replies.
If you want to create posts, the approach is this: bring value first, and casually mention your product at the end.
For example posts that do really well are when you are breaking down a strategy (practical, detailed) or sharing your journey (what worked or didn't work). Both of these should be packed with real value, and at the end you can add a link to your product (if the subreddit allows links).
Reddit can really bring a ton of high-intent traffic, but you need to do it the right way, there's no shortcut.

If the post is about someone asking for a tool, I always leave a reply.
If the post is about someone describing a problem my tool solves, I sometimes leave a reply, depending on whether I think the post will get traction. If I think it will, I leave a reply otherwise I skip it.
As for DMs, I always send them.
