The thing that finally got me traction on social wasn't posting more — it was replying

I spent months posting consistently and getting nothing. No followers, no clicks, no replies. The advice everyone gives — "just post valuable content" — assumes people can already see you. When you're starting from zero, they can't.

What changed it: I stopped leading with my own posts and started replying.

The logic is that a post only reaches people who already follow you. A reply reaches everyone reading an account bigger than yours. When your audience is small, you're better off borrowing someone else's.

Here's the system I run now:

  1. Find 5–10 accounts in your niche that post daily and get real engagement.
  2. Watch for their new posts and reply early — the first half hour is when replies actually get seen.
  3. Make the reply worth reading on its own: a specific take, a counterexample, a question that pushes the thread forward. Skip "great post."
  4. Stick with it for two weeks before deciding if it works.

The mechanism is simple — people meet you mid-conversation, already watching you be useful, instead of cold on your own empty profile.

It's slower than chasing a viral post, but it compounds. Curious if anyone here has run something similar — what worked for you?
