I recently stumbled on a rather neat SEO hack. I was working on a site to help curate the best GPTs out there but felt the name was terrible so I started playing with alternatives. In the end I simply transformed the acronym GPT into "Gipety," pronounced as "jip-uh-tees." When I realised the domains gipety.com and gipeties.com were both available I was delighted and bought them without thinking too much.
The more I thought about it though the more I realised there were a lot of advantages to what I was doing such as:
Uniqueness and Searchability: By creating a unique term like "Gipety," you establish a keyword that is almost exclusively associated with your content or product. This reduces competition for search rankings, as common terms like "GPT" yield an overwhelming amount of search results from numerous sources. Your unique term stands out and is easier to rank for in search engines.
Brand Identity and Recognition: Inventing a new word can also be a powerful branding tool. It gives you the ability to define and own the narrative around the term. As "Gipety" becomes more recognized and used, it becomes synonymous with your brand and website, driving more organic traffic to your site.
Link Building and Content Creation: With a new term, you can generate a variety of content (blogs, articles, videos, etc.) around it. Other websites referring to this term may link back to your site as the original source, enhancing your site’s authority and search engine rankings.
Social Media and Online Discussions: A new, catchy term can spark conversations across social media and online forums. This not only spreads awareness but also potentially creates numerous natural backlinks and references to your website, further boosting SEO.
Long-term SEO Value: Over time, as the term gains traction and more content is created around it, it establishes a lasting presence in search engines. This can lead to sustained organic traffic, especially if the term starts getting used more widely within the industry.
Reduced Risk of Negative SEO: Since "Gipety" is a term you've invented, it's unlikely to be associated with irrelevant or negative content that could harm your website's SEO.
I am only a few weeks into this experiment but I will report back on here on the progress I make.
In the meantime if anyone here has tried something similar I'd love to hear about their experience and any feedback they might have.
I Expected Traffic to Hit Zero. It Didn’t.
Here's a counterpoint - if you invent a word, chances are no one is searching for it. If you search for it you will rank of course, but inventing a term or category makes for a steep uphill climb in SEO because your success in SEO will be dependent on whether people actually search for the term.
I usually take keyword search volumes with a large grain of salt, but in this case they do matter.
You're absolutely right. What I am trying to do in this case though is to create an association between a word that is search for a lot (GPT) and create an association with the newly created word that sounds like it.
There is a good chance it will fail but the cost of trying it is quite low and I think I will learn something from the attempt.
Interesting! I own builtwithgpt.com and madewithgpt.com, but am currently doing nothing with them. Maybe I should look into utilizing them or handing them off to someone
If you want to host a directory on those domains I already have the code for doing that.
Would need to have a twist though. Maybe focus on a niche or provide more detailed reviews than current directories. I want to eventually do video reviews of the best gipeties but haven't yet had the time for that.
Nice article. I try to work with keywords, not much I did in terms of SEO for my website yet.
Interesting but also open to discussion. It's a further challenge but it would worth it. Thanks for putting it on the table!
Great work, EdTee! This is a brilliant hack that showcases a creative and witty approach to SEO. Your out-of-the-box solution is sure to bring more visibility to your project, and we look forward to seeing the results!
Just found out now that OpenAI is planning to delay the launch the GPT Store till early next year!
Apparently a "few unexpected things have been keeping us busy!" - understatement of the year I'd say.
This is awesome for the movement to rename GPT to gipety and GPTS to gipeties ;)
The only issue with this is how many people will organically search for gipety . It is a cool name nevertheless but I wonder if google will consider gipety is gpt.
You will be unique but the word it self have very less traffic.
