The Unspoken Magic of Zoom
Building a startup while living like a nomad isn't easy.
Calls happen from noisy cafés, Airbnb kitchens, and places where the Wi-Fi sometimes feels like it's powered by hope and prayer.
But you know what’s wild?
People get it.
They don’t flinch when I say, “I’m in Vietnam this week” or “Mind the roosters, I’m calling from rural Mexico.” They lean in. They smile. They understand.
Zoom has made the world weirdly smaller and unexpectedly kinder.
I've had investor calls where I was wearing shorts, barefoot, talking about AI-powered local marketing while surrounded by jungle.
And not once… not once did someone say, “Wait, what are you doing out there?”
They care about what we’re building, not where I’m building it.
So here’s to Zoom.
And to the people who see through the screen and just want to build something meaningful no matter where you are.

I’ve taken calls from a dodgy coworking space in Cairo with a fan louder than my mic, and once from a hostel kitchen while someone was frying fish behind me.
But yeah — never had anyone care where I was, just what I was saying. Remote life’s weird, but in a good way
Thanks for the comment. I try to make calls as easy as possible in terms of location and noise levels, but it's not always easy.
I have similar experience of people "getting it" too. Once people understand that I can be anywhere doing anything, they don't seem to mind where I am. As you said, what I'm making to the world is what matters.
I wouldn't say the most unexpected place, but one of the pleasant place I remember is the outside bench of my uni campus. It was when the cherry blossoms were full blown, and it felt almost magical for me to do my jobs around those flowers.
I can imagine. Cafe's and hotel rooms are more the reality not the image I shared, but I did have a call from a beach sunbed last month in Thailand.
Wow I'm listing getting a call on a beach sunbed on my bucketlist :) Did the call get along with the vibe there? I hope it didn't bother you relaxing.
It was a quick maintenance call and very informal. Back home it would have been a Starbucks, but here the beach is available, so I make it my office.
This hit home—building from anywhere really is the new normal. Love how you captured the shift in mindset; it’s no longer about the background, it’s about the vision.
