Hey Indie Hackers π
I wanted to share the story behind Theros, a workout tracker + training program marketplace I'm currently bootstrapping with a friend β and why this time feels different from everything I've built before.
I've been building things around training since I was about 15.
My first project was a bodybuilding forum in Uruguay called UruMuscle. It never really took off, but through it I met a lot of serious lifters and learned how people actually train.
Years later, I built GymBosses. It started as a tool for a friend who owned a gym β but he never really adopted it. So I did things the unscalable way: I pulled gyms from Google Maps and started calling them one by one, scheduling in-person meetings.
GymBosses actually worked for a while. I met a gym founder who used the app for almost 10 years. But despite that, I never made real money from it. The app didn't scale beyond a small number of gyms, and the revenue never covered infrastructure and maintenance costs β so I eventually pulled the plug.
That experience taught me two things:
Looking back, I noticed a pattern.
I was always building around training β but usually to solve someone else's pain, not my own. Meanwhile, I was still tracking my workouts in Excel.
Over the years, I've followed many coaches and bought plenty of programs. Almost all of them were delivered as PDFs or spreadsheets. They work, but they're clunky and disconnected from actual progress tracking.
I'm very data-driven with training. Seeing trends and improvements is what keeps me consistent. And I couldn't find a tool that made following programs and tracking progress feel clean and connected.
So this time, I decided to finally scratch my own itch.
Theros is:
On top of that, we're building a program marketplace, so coaches who currently sell PDFs or spreadsheets can deliver programs directly inside the app, with proper tracking for their athletes.

After building things that were useful but not profitable, I've learned that:
If you've gone through something similar β or have thoughts on Theros β I'd genuinely love to hear them.
