As an indie hacker juggling product dev, design, marketing, and sanity — every micro-efficiency counts.
After months of optimizing my workflow, I’ve stumbled upon a few hidden iOS features that surprisingly made a real difference in how I work on the go.
Here are a few gems that helped me stay focused, responsive, and productive using just my iPhone:
🔍 Back Tap (Custom Shortcuts on Tap)
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap
Double- or triple-tap the back of your phone to trigger shortcuts — I use it to open Notion, toggle Low Power Mode, or launch Voice Memos during quick idea bursts.
📸 Live Text in Photos & Camera
You can copy text straight from your camera or photos.
Need to grab code from a screenshot? Or extract text from paper notes? Just long-press and copy. Massive time-saver.
🛑 Focus Modes (Beyond Do Not Disturb)
Custom Focus modes = boundary setting for your brain
I’ve created modes like “Deep Work”, “Idea Dumping”, and “User Support” — each with its own app restrictions, custom Home Screen, and notification filters. It’s like context-switching for your attention span.
🧠Siri Shortcuts + Voice Activation
“Hey Siri, launch work mode” sets my Focus mode, opens my task list, and starts my Pomodoro timer.
Automation isn’t just for dev — it’s for mental bandwidth too.
🔌 Low Data Mode & Low Power Mode
When you're hotspotting or on the move, these prevent background drains and syncs — giving you more control over what your phone is doing.
📎 Quick Notes (iOS 15+)
Swipe up from the bottom-right with Apple Pencil (or add Quick Note to Control Center)
I use this to capture user feedback snippets, idea fragments, or a/b test thoughts without diving into apps.
These aren’t just cool tricks—they genuinely help me move faster with less friction, especially during the early grind phase where time and energy are scarce.
If you’re a solo founder or indie dev, try a few and see what sticks.
