Things I don’t want to do to grow my side project

https://wagslane.dev/posts/things-i-dont-want-to-do-to-grow-business/

I'm interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience? It may be a bit unique to my situation (slow growth side project vs full-time)

"Most people give up on their side projects because they get bored or it’s not growing as fast as they had hoped. I’m trying to avoid that burnout by continuing to work on my project and avoiding the things I don’t like. Basically, I’m trying to keep it fun."

Love this perspective. You can build a meaningful business without killing yourself, and generally just having fun. I think it's much more sustainable than people that pour in 80+ hour weeks.

Agreed. Consistency is king. That said, I also think some slow & steady growth is necessary or again, you'll get discouraged by lack of users

Great share! It can be an asset that you can set your own pace, and you thus can focus on where the passion is. One thing that does makes me wonder is, if you are avoiding certain work aren’t you leaving behind a huge reservoir of opportunity?

I recognize many of your don’t likes, yet I like UI/UX (even though it is not my core skill) and I tolerate making movies (I don’t hate recording myself and I like fiddling with iMovie), haven’t used it yet for my projects (good reminder though).

My core dislike is outreach to media (press releases, direct contact) and, as you say, non passionate writing. Anything that makes me feel pushy really.

I'm in the process of getting my first side project of the ground and I already dread marketing the thing...
