This app is making $100K/month by helping people improve their social skills.

There’s an interesting opportunity in the AI + social skills space that I think is still early.

Gleam helps people improve social skills like dating, small talk, storytelling, negotiation and communication through just 5 minutes of daily practice.

And it’s reportedly doing $100K/month.

Now there’s a new YC company, Quippy, taking a similar idea even further: users practice realistic conversations with AI and get line-by-line feedback on what worked, what didn’t and how they could respond better.

The interesting part is that AI makes this much more practical than traditional courses or books.

You can practice:

  • Small talk

  • Dating conversations

  • Workplace communication

  • Negotiation

  • Storytelling

  • Difficult or awkward conversations

And unlike consuming content, you're actually practicing the skill.

I think there’s a big opportunity to build an AI-powered social skills coach that becomes something people use for 5 minutes every day to become more confident and better communicators.

If you want to build an app business, Feel free to reach out to me here at Clone The App.

I’d be happy to discuss your idea and help you turn it into a product.

The idea is the cheap part here: Gleam and Quippy are both winning on paid social and creator spend, so cloning the concept without a real acquisition budget puts you in a fight you cannot fund. Worth flagging too that these revenue figures come from store estimate tools that routinely run two or three times off, so a business case built on them is validating a guess rather than a market. If I were copying anything it would be the daily retention mechanic, not the category.

Thats some moat in there. The idea is great and i have been seeing some ads pertaining to this social skills thingy lately. need to get a deeper insight on what more can be built around this.

the 5 minute daily loop is probably the real product here people pay for practice when they can feel themselves getting better

The thing making $100k a month here is the ad, not the app. Conversation practice demos beautifully in a fifteen second video, so the winners are content operations that happen to ship software, and a clone loses the moment it has to buy the traffic the original earns for free. If you are going to copy something, copy the creative and the hook rate, because the build is a weekend and the channel is the actual business.

This space is exploding for a reason. I talked to 3 friends who pay for Gleam and they all said the same thing - they don't care about "theory", they want a safe place to fail.

Books make you feel bad for not knowing how to small talk. AI lets you fail 10 times in private before you try it in real life. That's the real unlock.

Curious if you've seen retention on these? My bet is the daily 5-min habit is everything - if you miss 2 days, you churn. Did Gleam crack that with streaks/notifications?

I feel like that is rare. Often, an app is just one doorway into a much larger business that may be generating significant revenue.
