A little bit about the making of the video.
I got an idea to make a video after watching this video on youtube: The A.I.D.A. Method by Clark Kegley. He's broken down the method into 4 steps: Attention, Idea, Desire and Action. There's always a technique to everything: martial arts, sales, relationships... When you're a pro at something, it's natural to you, but when we first learn, we need a set of instructions to repeat to complete the task. So that's why I really liked his approach as it gave me a framework to work with:
I made the video about half a year ago, and as my first experience in doing such a thing it was a lot of fun. To get started, I wrote a script down in a notebook and literally memorised sections of it between takes. That's quite painful, but that was the only option. It's actually pretty damn hard and I had to make 5-10 takes sometimes, but it's good I exercised my memory previously with poetry and other random scripts ("you're now standing on the banks of Mudchute, built for the Millwall Dock Company in the 1870s, ...", can't actually remember it now ☹️). To hold the camera, I bought a windscreen mount and attached it to the wardrobe. Then just recorded with the IPhone 6 front camera so the quality isn't great but it'll do.
The editing was fun, too, especially inserting random clips. I do love a meme and there's plenty of room for imagination on how to insert one or two in the process. When you watch films, you'll start picking up relevant lines that can be used in videos (or even plain blog posts). The original production was 46 min lol and I finished about 6 months ago but then switched to other tasks leaving it for better times. And then finally I listened to the webinar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cedp7jAyNE give product demos that sell - where Steli Efti advises to make demos short saying that you'll lose people's attention after 30 min. And having subscribed to many youtube channels, I too noticed that my limit was about 15 min after which videos would bore me. So yes ofc 46 minutes was a bad idea, but it's good I recognised I could split it into 3 parts. I like how when you have a long-stretched plan but you carry on working and it becomes sort of a quest when all pieces of the jigsaw puzzle come together and you get hints along the way on how to execute your ideas well. I guess that's just me starting a business for the first time which is very spiritual and might not work for more pragmatic sane peoples.
