Okay, the title of this post is a bit clickbaity, but in fact the code I wrote just crossed $30.000 of revenue.
The product I am talking about is my SaaS starter kit supastarter (https://supastarter.dev). It essentially is a codebase that comes with all the common SaaS functionalities like auth, i18n, payments and so on already implemented.
I started to over a year ago in August of 2022 to build the initial Next.js starter kit for myself, so that I would not have to repeat myself over and over again when starting new SaaS apps for my clients. I never really had the intention to (in the beginning) to make real money from this, but I created a small landing page and put a price tag of $49 on i, which would get you access to the repository and a Discord server for support. I said to myself "If this thing makes me $1k, it's a huge success for me", not believing that could actually happen.
In the first 3 month I made a total of $2k, which made me incredibly happy and motivated me to invest more into it. I did more marketing, build more features into it and tried growing my followers on Twitter to get more reach. Also I increased the price to $249 and after 6 months I was already at $15k revenue.
Then Vercel released Next 13 with the app router and my sales went down drastically, because my starter kit was built with the pages router and it seemed outdated. So I sad down for multiple months and completely rewrote my starter kit with the intention of making it more scalable, extensible and more appealing for a larger audience. After another 6 months in September of 2023 I released the new version and it made nearly $10k since then.
At the same time, I teamed up with the amazing Fabian Beer you is an expert in Nuxt to expand the starter kit from the React ecosystem to the Vue.js ecosystem. Last week we finally launched the new version for Nuxt 3 and the outcome is incredible. Over $7k+ revenue within the first week!
The response and feedback we got so far is really positive and helpful and we are trying to make the product better every day.
I would love to hear your feedback on what you think about our product and what you would like to see as the next feature.
I am incredibly thankful for all the support by the community and am proud to call myself an indie hacker!
Man, what a story, im really happy for you!
Mind sharing what kind of marketing you did to, boost your sales like that?
My main marketing channel is X. Also I sponsored some newsletter in the ecosystem (for Next.js) and then you talk about it everywhere.
Exactly my question, especially such a niched tool
Wanna talk? Maybe we can help each other

Interesting. thanks for sahring
Your focus on the user and your agility in responding to comments have really helped Supastarter gain traction. It's amazing how you've taken obstacles and turned them into opportunities to continuously improve the product.
this looks great! i'm a nextjs/react-native + django drf guy, but i'm going to give this a shot to spin up mvps faster 🤞
wait never mind it's $420 with TVA in France, ouch 🤯
Do you think that's too much?
it might be justified but i'm not sure it is for me. it's not my usual stack so i may not stick with it. i love the idea though!
Thank you for your honest answer! I can understand that and really appreciate you taking the time to look at my project 😊
i'm looking at this too https://www.hypersaas.dev/, but i might just my own boilerplate from existing projects
I always think that you should use what fits your use case the best and makes you ship faster!
Heeey, so I went the custom road to build my saas by hand from the ground up for the xth time using nextjs and drf, ended up solving the same problems for the xth time, and finally bought supastarter haha!
So far the DX has been great, let's see how this goooes!
