This is how you stop struggling to get traction for your (next) project

Hey fellow Indie Hackers,

Have you ever looked at successful start-ups or newsletters and wondered, how did they do it? How did they create a successful business?

The answer is simple of course. They got traction. They acquired customers.

One way to go about it is through social media traction. But you’ve heard that a million times before and haven’t figured out how yet, I hear you say.

I’ll give you some tips for Twitter that WILL work. I have over 22,000 followers on that platform and built a successful business on top of it. Hypefury.

Indiehackers like you have done it too. Dagobert has successfully made a name for himself and his business - Logology - by owning the startup meme niche.

All you need is - To be consistent on Twitter and help people. The more eyes are on you, the better your business will do.

Here are a few tips to start on Twitter

Improve your Twitter profile

Your profile is the first thing that will get people to follow you. It should answer the question: “Why should someone follow you?”

Get a clear profile picture that stands out (think background color)
Write a meaningful, short bio with a bit of personality
Add your experience and how you can help.

Tweet consistently

This gives your audience something to look forward to and attracts new followers who are interested in your product. Do not tweet only about your product but about your niche, startup founders, and other related areas. Be a person, not a business.

When you don’t have a lot of followers yet, tweet about once or twice a day on your own timeline and comment a lot on other people's timelines.

Find other people in your niche that are a lot bigger than you and start adding value to their timeline, daily. Simply do a search for some popular keywords in your niche and follow big accounts.

Share "relevant" information

Once you have a huge account you can share platitudes and even get engagement but before you reach that summit you need to talk RLS.

Real Life Shit.

Too many people regurgitate other people's stories.

As an Indie Hacker you are in the best possible spot to talk about RLS.

You're starting a business. You're working on exciting things. You want to create freedom for yourself.

All that stuff is aspirational. You'll automatically attract the right audience.

Don't fear clicking [Tweet] (or [Publish] for that matter).

You're at your worst at the beginning of your journey. And the great thing about the beginning of your journey? Nobody's watching you yet. So just share away and see what people resonate with.

Learn from your winners. Learn from your mistakes. Keep sharing your story.

Post visual content

Adding a variety of memes or images makes your content stand out more.
Just take a look at @dagorenouf on Twitter. His memes about start-ups are doing great!

The easiest visuals for an Indie Hacker to share are the ones of their wins.

Your first $ made online. Your MRR that just reached $50. Your 10th customer. 100th customer. You can go on and on.

People love to celebrate wins together and making a screenshot of those Stripe notifications is a great way to do just that.

Interact as much as possible

Twitter is all about interacting with your audience. Retweeting, commenting and DM-ing your followers is important to grow your brand. Find Indie Hackers like you - connect with them, engage with their tweets, and you'll also be noticed by their followers too.

Here’s a list to help you with that: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/11-people-you-should-follow-on-twitter-if-you-re-an-indie-hacker-13837abc3f

Pin a meaningful tweet:

This tweet appears at the top of the page and gives a new follower an insight into your account. That tweet is a window to the content you share on Twitter. You can pin your most popular tweet or write a thread about your story and business journey.

I pinned an interesting story about Disney.
