This is the coolest site I've come across in ages
So I have tried to find a small tech/entrepreneurial forum like this for so long. I thought I'd find what I'm after in reddit but they're too big to have cool discussions. This is the perfect size! Please don't tell too many people about it lol.

How does it compare to Mixergy's podcast?
Personal opinion: IH is more in line with me, with most of the guests (not all of them, but a vast majority).
Mixergy is absolutely great as well, I listen to both, but sometimes I don't relate to the stories, for some reason (not that they're not good, but sometimes they're "too big" businesses for me to think about)
Pat Flynn has lots of episodes where I can relate to the hosts and what they're doing.

It sounds like they can serve different needs. It sounds like for you Indie Hacker podcast guests are relatable and feel like peers or not too much bigger. They are still on their way and “getting there”.
And you see Mixergy guests’ companies are usually more established and talk about how they got there.
Pros to both. Will have to listen to a few IH ones.
Many on IH are definitely established, and “dit it”, just more in line with what I’d like to do

Didn't know there was a podcast. Just subscribed! Is there a particular one you recommend I start with?
It depends on your interests.
I had a blast recently with David Smooke #48, Josh Kaufman #49, Pieter Levels #43, Rand Fishkin #50. The older ones are great as well.
Can confirm. It's the most applicable/most substantial business advice I've found in a podcast.
Well the bad news is that, if @channingallen and I do our jobs right, the site will continue growing for sure. The good news is that, if we do our jobs right, the site will remain equally cool and actually increase in its usefulness as more people find it.
I quite like Reddit's model of dividing things up into sub-Reddits. Plus the community here is really great at self-policing and maintaining norms for high quality. Of course, ideas are always welcome!
That is quite an awesome problem to solve: growing Indie Hackers while keeping it feeling small and intimate too.

Courtland if you all had to make sub reddits at this stage what do you think they'd be?
Strategically, I like the idea of allowing users to create their own sub-forums. As a result the topics wouldn't be subject to the limits of my individual creativity; they could "compete" with one another so the best ones would rise to the top; and people would be incentivized to promote their own sub-forums which could help me out with growing the site.
I also like the idea of coming up with topics/tags that represent the common challenges we face as founders: landing page design and copy, ideation, finding co-founders, marketing, SEO, sales, hiring, etc. And then of course, there are all the different verticals: SaaS, courses, info products, e-commerce businesses, games, crypto, media businesses, etc. Haven't thought much about whether it'd make the most sense for me to create these on my own or let other people do it.
I like it. Probably similar to how youve grown the site so far.
Use your expertise to pick the first sub forums and seed them. Like yall did with the interviews first. Ensure quality is high.
Then eventually add ability to create sub forums and add community moderators etc.
With that said, i wonder if HN is a closer cousin than reddit? HN comment quality is so high. I think they have really good algorithms, mods, and community rules to keep quality up as the site has grown. Quality seems higher than most business sub reddits.
Yes I agree 100%. /Entrepreneurship /General to start off. I got flack for posting something about my favorite movies/tv shows regarding starting a business.
We all keep each other in check... but really we're all doing our own things and just seeking some advice, help, tips, etc. in the process.
Very well said! We're all go-getters trying to build our business.
And Indie Hackers is a great place to get help along the way from a community of like-minded entrepreneurs!

Well it's steadily growing, but I find it's the right kind of people typically hang out here and that creates such a good culture. Helpful, humble and hardworking.
Definitely. The focus here is to build and ship stuff, and to make money while doing so. This focus hopefully will keep those who are only on discouraging others or trolling to a minimum as the topics don’t interest them much. ;)
