This is the third iteration. How can I improve Shreddo's landing page?

After the last two posts on IndieHackers as well as face to face interviews, I have done another iteration on my landing page.

To sum up the problems last time:

  • The layout was hard to follow
  • There were visual problems (margins, paddings, and font weights)
  • People didn't understand the value proposition. (This is the most critical one imho)

If you could check out https://shreddo.io and provide me with some feedback, it would be very helpful for me :) How can I improve it?

    Hi !

I can give some layout feedback.

    The hero
    ------------
For example, the hero just shows the pitch. I would use some scaffolding there so the visitor sees your video without scrolling.
Like, text and cta on the left and video on the right.

    First Section
    -----------------

Instead of using the whole with for text and image a I would use cards right there. So the visitor sees it all in once.

Here is an example that I did to a customer:
    https://dribbble.com/shots/7888376-Working-on-some-cards

The image on top of the explainer text.

    The three last columns.
    -------------------‐----------
Give that section a bg color and wrap them on cards too.
I would recommend height:100%; to all cards

    Footer
    ---------
    There's to s of ways.
Look in https://saaspages.xyz/blocks/footer/by @volkandkaya for inspiration.
    .
I can help you out for the cards if you need to.

    Have a good day

Hey, thanks for the nice layout feedbacks! I will try to combine them with other feedbacks I received here - for example for benefits I can try cards.

Great layout... while you provide nice clear descriptions of what it does I think it might help you if you tell people why they need it or even who it would benefit... why do I need a checklist hub? (on a personal note for me my checklist hub is the notes app..your landing page did not make me think it might be something I need-conversely as a freelancer with multiple projects running all the time I would consider using the tool to better manage them all in one place... etc)

Thanks for the feedback! I agree on making the benefits more clear and for whom.

On a side note, this is an application that you can use for your recurring tasks. I used Evernote, Google Tasks, and lately Asana (I am still using Asana). They are for tasks that needs to get done. Shreddo is a library for how to get a task done. So, you are able to export a workflow from Shreddo to Asana. I will be adding integrations for more note-taking/to-do apps (I need validation if people would use this feature).

Hi Kerem, I'd say the landing page is fine. I understood what the software does right away. My question is how does this beat pen and paper, with a magnet on the fridge? Or even the notepad app in my phone? I can't see how the experience of building a "workflow" (oh my, what a big scary word for the uninitiated) on Shreddo would surpass the experience of doing it manually.

Maybe if you can actually hook this up to do ACTUAL tasks via APIs (like turn off all lights before leaving for vacation for a smart home, or delete all spam mail in your inbox, or something), I might be interested. But just a static collection of text?

      Hello Ricky :)

The idea is organizing your workflows in one place as an individual and as a team. Moreover, if there is a GitHub like platform for workflows - hopefully Shreddo -, then before starting a task, I could check if there was a workflow before going through all the pain.

Examples for the task may be:

      • I will write a research paper using a specific method
      • I will bring my car to regular inspection

I am not sure if people would actually use this product, but I am validating my assumptions step by step. I will make the landing page more clear on these points though.

On your last point - automation may become a feature for some of the workflows in Shreddo at some point, or maybe I could provide power users the ability to do so.

      1. 1

I guess I'm just not sold by the "going on vacation checklist" use case. To fully validate this idea, I would suggest looking for 3 really salient convincing use cases that truly showcases your product's value-adding capabilities. What specific workflows could I organize with Shreddo that would make my life 10x easier as compared to what I have now?

With the best use cases, you can then see if the market responds favorably, and you can take it from there. Unfortunately the vacation use case didn't work for me, I guess I also got quite hung up on that example too, but I'm sure if you came up with other use cases where a workflow software would be tremendously helpful (e.g. maybe something complex, I just can't think of what yet) it will take off.

        1. 1

That might be the problem - I've added the going on a vacation checklist to make people understand what a workflow is in Shreddo. I will think of a different example.

Based on the comments I have received here, just below the first video I will put 3 struggles or use cases:

          • You find yourself searching for the same magical step that worked last time in a pile of YouTube videos and blogs.
          • You search for a recipe but there are many of them at different sources. You can’t make sure which one works best so you try them one by one or give up on the task completely.
          • You and your team lose critical information when a team member leaves since none of the workflows are properly defined.

These are just drafts and I will refine them. These are the struggles I deal with that led me to build Shreddo, but maybe you could comment if one of these struggles are also familiar to you.

    Hi Kerem,

The other folks have a point. The word "Workflows" didn't resonate with me. I thought this might be about automation services like Zapier, etc.

But then I scrolled and saw that it's about personal checklists, things to do in an order, repeatable instructions for yourself, etc.

Here's the thing: you've got competitors!!! Not only did a friend of mine want create a similar product to document multi-step processes in a single app, but more importantly, people have a bunch of existing ways to track lists. Their mish-mash of existing approaches are probably good enough.

But: I'd ask this... What about their existing approaches would qualify as a struggle? Is it sharing an instructions list with someone else? Is it related to accountability, delegation? Is it that keep copy/pasting a list into a new document?

No pain, no product. But even if you find pain, if their existing solutions are good enough, you don't got a product either, because their existing solutions are like a very strong gravity well, pulling back toward "non-consumption".

Here's an article to show what I mean:
    https://sharpen.page/jtbd/changing-orbit-selling-your-idea/

But, back to your landing page: if you do have a struggle and the existing approaches are no longer good enough, I'd just make the first 2 first screens about showing the visitor not your product, but their own struggle. Describe the struggle they're currently going through. Make them nod in the satisfaction that you understand them. Then show them another way forward with your product.

      Hello Pascal,

Thanks for the detailed feedback! And also the useful link.

In the next iteration, I will try to label the struggle early on, and I have to figure out a way to make the term "workflow" more explanatory. I don't want to just use checklist because the artifact you are building in Shreddo is something more.

Your other point about the existing approaches: I could say this GitHub for your workflows/checklists, but I don't know if that would be meaningful for non-technical audiences.

Hopefully I will solve some these issues in the next iteration.

  5. 2

I don't know what a workflow is so nothing on the website was there to grab me.

    1. 1

The word workflow shows up in every paragraph on the site.
The design of the site is nice though.

      1. 1

Thank you for the complement on the design :) I should make the term "workflow" more clear.

  6. 2

    "The library for your workflows"
"We store your workflows and make them easy to navigate,
so you can stop worrying and reduce your mental load."

I don't know what this means. What is a workflow?

Your goal for this should be to get someone to watch your first video. How can you entice them to take that next step?

Later on you use "Use the power of checklists for everyday tasks"

This is a bit more meaningful for me. So you're a to-do list, but sort of 'upgraded'.

How about something like "unleash the power of checklists" as your main header text?

    ---

Then focus on the benefits of having these workflows. Most of your users are probably using a task list app of some sort, so I would make the main focus -- why would I use a workflow if i'm already using a task list?

i.e. More peace of mind, a more organized life, lower cognitive load, better decision making..

Make this more clear, and really focus on the difference between task list and workflows.

    ---

Are you focusing on teams or individual users? It's not really clear.

Getting step by step instructions is not that helpful/useful for me as a user, but would be helpful in a team setting.

I guess if you wrote, "get your next task only" that would be more applicable to users who use a GTD system, but the text should be quite different for individuals, imo.

    ---

Additionally, you should think about the kind of user who would use these workflows, and what type of pitch would be meaningful to them.

    ---

Thanks for the detailed review @sobbuh.

      • I have been struggling with choosing the right keywords for the main text (i.e. should I use checklist or not). I decided to put checklist below the video, but you are also right about getting the visitor to watch the first video.
      • I can also add a section differentiating workflows from task lists, listing benefits.
      • I am focusing on both individuals and teams sort of like GitHub. I am actively using Shreddo as an individual and meanwhile trying to get my colleagues at the university use Shreddo 😅. After some consideration, I've decided to put team benefits down below after explaining individual benefits. Right now, I don't know how to address both in the main header text (I am trying to keep it as simple as possible).

Trying this out, when I add a task, it says "Inherits privacy" No idea what that is. When adding a comment, what's the point of the Preview when I can already see what I'm typing, lol. Maybe when I click Start, would be nice to be able to enter a comment or notes in-case something came up or I remember something. I just have a Prev and Next. Landing page looks fine, like the video, which made me try it out.

    1. 1

Hello @Wishy. This was the type of feedback I needed before moving on, but this is actually the first one besides my close network.

      • Inherits privacy means the task inherits the privacy of the parent workflow, but I will think of some way to make it more explanatory.
      • Since you are able to use markdown, I thought a preview would be useful, but not I doubt that.
      • I had your last point in mind.

Thank you for your constructive feedback!
