Thoughts on building Shopify Apps?
I've recently started educating myself about the whole Shopify Partners program and the App ecosystem. I know the Shopify marketplace is a bit saturated at this point, but Shopify still is a growing platform, so I think a well-designed app without a lot of competition could stand a chance.
Is anyone here building Shopify Apps, or have some experience with them?
I have an app on the Shopify app store and I'm happy to share my knowledge or answer questions. I have 3 comments, having been through the process:
The approval process takes a long time. 7 weeks in my case, including 5 weeks before they even looked at it for the first time.
Being on the app store does not guarantee installations - far from it. Be prepared to market your app in exactly the same way as you would market any other SaaS, with the associated cost in time and/or money.
The churn is horrendous. The vast majority of Shopify merchants are not making any money themselves and are definitely not looking to add to their monthly costs.
Those are my 3 overriding thoughts.
Will my next project be another Shopify app?
No.

This was my impression too from the little research I've done, and it was actually what made me think that investing in this platform could be a good idea.
