Thoughts on publicly sharing your website metrics (i.e being an Open Startup™)?

I've been following @levelsio for a while now and have been addicted to all the metrics he shares on Twitter and via his Open Startup™ pages on his various websites.

This addiction to data got me thinking I should open up a similar page for my latest project (Maker Updates) and see what effect (if any) it has on anything (I know, I'm amazing at words ;) )

Within the first five minutes of seeing the data visualized on screen I realized I have A LOT OF WORK TO DO and have been really slacking on updating the website. I know this wasn't the main goal for @levelsio when he came up with Open Startup™ idea, but dang, it virtually kicked me In my butt!

So what are your thoughts on sharing metric publicly? Do you do it? Do you like seeing other project(s) metrics?

BTW ... for those who want to see my page ...

I think that sharing metrics can really increase the engagement of your users. When I see those, I kinda feel like I'm part of the project.

    • If it motivates you and holds you accountable, you should keep going.

I like reading those, especially with revenue details. It helps a lot to plan your projects.
I have released all financials for https://afteridea.com here on a forum as well, and I plan to keep doing this with future projects. It not only holds you accountable, but it also helps you to keep the track and get some extra customers here and there.

Wow! I need to go find those and add your milestones to Maker Updates.
