Thoughts regarding trial periods vs freemium?

Hi everyone

As testing continues with my current project Shopping Tracker, I am starting to wonder whether I should make use of a free trial or a freemium model, or even a combination of the two.

Do any of you have any experience with either when it comes to B2C web apps? Originally I was planning to just give a free trial, but then I realised that both TickTick and Saffron (Not affiliated with them. My wife in particular is just a really happy user) make use of a freemium model and that we most probably wouldn't be using, and paying for, either if they just had a free trial.

I found this article very useful (Thanks @caffeinatedwes), but felt that it was more directed at B2B

So thoughts?
