TikTok experiment: Does it artificially boost posts of new accounts? Here's the view count.

Hey folks,

We launched Terra in TikTok last week, and I wrote an article about the impressions we got in the first few videos posted.

Many people asked whether TikTok inflates the view count for new accounts, so I tested it.

I was uploading 1 video a day for ten days.

Here are the results

  • 1st video: 547 views
  • 2nd video: 546 views
  • 3rd video: 580 views
  • 4th video: 560 views
  • 5th video: 20 views
  • 6th video: 90 views
  • 7th video: 106 views
  • 8th video: 227 views
  • 9th video: 226 views
  • 10th video: 40 views

Here's a graph too

enter image description here

  • It seems that, indeed, TikTok is inflating the views for the first few videos
  • The first videos stop getting views after you reach ~500
