Hey all,
I had an idea for a pain point I've had at work and wanted to see if its worth exploring. I'm not sure if others feel its a pain point, or if they even have the same problem.
In most of my work/team setups (as an engineer), each team seems to have a spreadsheet to keep track of everyone's holidays within the team. As I'm often part of different "teams" (official, or unofficial) - I find it quite a mess making sure I keep my info on these sheets up to date. I also have less "trust" in the data for other members as I know in the past I've just forgotten to update it.
Considering all our time off requests are handled by actual HR software (Workday, etc) - I find it odd I can only see my immediate team's time off at a glance (and even then, only as an engineering manager) within the software.
So, in short, I was thinking of a solution that would allow joining different "teams", and then having a overview of everyones time off visible there. This time off data would come directly from the HR software (Workday seems to have an API for this, I'd imagine others do too).
I had a quick look, and I cannot find anything like this on the market. Everything is an all-inclusive time-off management platform for requesting leave too, which isn't what I want.
Is this worth exploring? I'll chat to some other engineers + managers to see if they share the same pain, but thought the folks here might have some insight too.
