Tips For Success With Your Home Based Business

We live in a society today where it is very popular to work from home. There are tons of people that are becoming much more successful working fewer hours with their home businesses than those that work double the time outside the home.

I am no expert in this area (yet), but I would like to share some tips with you that I have found to make my business more successful.

No matter the type of business you run from home, most of these tips should ring true for you!

We've all heard the saying, "Work Smarter, Not Harder." This is so true. If you take the time to figure out what has worked for others that have "gone before you." Implement their advice and see if it works for you. Hey, it worked for them...

#1) "This Is Your Wake-Up Call!" (Set that Alarm)

If you had a 9-5 out of the home job, you would be expected to be at work at a certain time each day...on time. Don't expect anything less of yourself by working at home. You are your boss so be hard on yourself! Don't be late. Yes, working from home is a luxury and a great aspect of it is that you don't have to get up early and go to work. However, if you begin treating it like you do, your success will come quicker; you will learn self-discipline much faster; and then down the road, you can enjoy sleeping until your eyes decide to open. For now, it's not the time for that!

#2) What NOT to Wear!

Most of you have seen the show on TV called, "What NOT to Wear." Good show and it works for you work-at-home"ers" too! I have seen so many people mention that they work in their pj's all day long or sweatpants because no one sees them anyway and it is more comfortable. Yes, that is a benefit of working from home and this, of course, is your decision. But try this for a week: After you've done step 1 (gotten up by the sound of your alarm clock,) get in the shower and get dressed...brace yourself people...all the way down to your makeup, shoes, jewelry, perfume.

You must think I am crazy huh? This is a mental thing - when you are fully dressed as if you are headed to an office job somewhere, you feel good about yourself. You wouldn't go to an office job or in front of your boss in your pj's or sweatpants, would you? Would you show up without your makeup on or barefoot? No! You would show up looking good and feeling good about your appearance. When you feel good about yourself, your confidence level is up and you are much more ready to "face the world" and be successful. One last thing about this is that when you work from home, it is so easy to kick back or take a break, which turns into a nap or laziness and then you find that you've wasted a huge portion of your day. With your shoes on your feet, it is much harder to lay down and get comfortable. Try it and see!

This brings me to a difficult step for most people...

#3) Have You Seen the Remote? (Hide that thing)

Now for me, this really isn't an issue, but I imagine it maybe if I didn't have a small child at home. With a 2-year-old, the only shows that are on in the morning are show that she watches, which sometimes can be a distraction, but not a problem for me.

T.V. is such a time waster! It is unreal the average number of hours that people spend watching television each week. That is so much less time spent with family and friends, but also so much less time spent on productive work in your business.

If you feel that you have to stay up-to-date and know what is going on with every pop star, movie star, political figure, etc. While you are getting dressed (step #2) for work each morning, turn the news on and you will see everything important. Then, you can rest assured each day that you've not missed out on anything important and start making some news of your own in your business success. You know you can drop those silly soap operas for 4 years and turn it on and still follow the story. Only the people on the inside of the t.v. are making the money...and we are losing it because time is money.

#4) What Does Your List Say?

Make a list of goals for yourself: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. If we have heard this once, we've heard it a million times. This has not always been one of my strengths and is still something I am working on. But, I have absolutely found that it does work! If you aren't sure where you see yourself in a year or even six months from now, don't feel bad! Start off small...by making daily and weekly goals in your business. You will find that on Friday, if you make your list for what you want to get done on Monday, you are much more likely to finish that list. You know, "Out of sight, out of mind." If you don't have a list and review it all of the time, you will forget those things that you want to check off of your "to-do" or your "life" lists. Get to writin'.

#5) Squint if you Have to!

Do you have a vision for yourself, your life? Most of us do, we just don't know how to verbalize it. We also have a tendency to nay-say ourselves when it comes to our goals, our visions. You see it and it looks and sounds good, but you may think it is too good to be true or that you will never get there. First of all, don't doubt! You are good enough! You do deserve it! You WILL have it...if you work towards it.

A lot of people have no idea what they want for their lives, their future. Of course everyone wants to be healthy, wealthy and happy. But, a real vision involves detail...how you will get what you want and where you want to be. I have a hard time seeing the detail sometimes so I just focus on the main picture and as I do that, I know the details will become more detailed and clearer in my mind.

Don't feel bad if you can't clearly see a vision for your life at this time. Keep working and focus on your WHY - your reason for working at home in the first place...and by all means, "squint if you have to!" It will come.
