I know some are thinking I should have switched to something that grows quicker: "In 20 years you might have a decent salary"
True, but that's exactly what I did:
I chased other shiny projects, only to realize getting the "small" traction I had was really hard to replicate or reach again. Meanwhile, without much effort it slowly grew by itself.
I was afraid to even touch it because I thought I might ruin it.
My newer work was "advanced". Better design, better branding, better product.
Every important metric disagreed
It's tough to recognize when you're placing your efforts in the wrong buckets. You can see it clear as day after the fact, but in the moment you can only imagine what will happen.
The majority of my income still comes from freelance web design. But I'm using the $1K MRR to block out my mornings. Now I can dedicate a bunch of hours daily to push my side-project to the next level.
Leading up to 2022, I have been completely focused on improving my conversion rate. Big updates to my home and pricing pages have led to some nice signs.
Now I'm testing out marketing tactics, starting with email.
I still have an uphill battle. But, it's less uphill than my other ideas.
Gratz! We all know how this story goes, waiting for the post titled;
Thanks Anil! That's the hope. Seems plausible if I can afford to dedicate more and more energy into the project.
Congrats! That is so awesome Matt! Can't wait to see you take your product to a whole another level!
Thanks! Hope I can, and a bit faster that four more years ;)
Great work Matt. I've been at the same grind for about twice as long. Persistence and perseverance are key.
Thanks again Derrick! I've been at this longer, I've failed other business ideas before ;) this is just the first with both recurring rev and traction.
Congrats matt! You deserve it with all the hard work you put in 🔥
Thanks Dagobert! The great thing is now I can award myself with more time for hard work ;)
Congrats on the milestone matt, seems like a great journey.
just curious, how do you create the MRR graph?, i want to make it too :)
Thanks, the graph is chartmogul. Free until you earn $10k MRR or more. Literally connect your stripe account and it does the rest.
Congrats Matt! This is great to see!
The shiny toy syndrome is REAL.
What's your plan with email marketing?
Thanks Sophia! I want to capture some of my traffic to nuture them. I believe a little product education will go a long way.
Great idea!
Great work Matt! Love following your journey on Twitter! Keep it up.
Slow progress is better than no progress.
Thanks Terry! Slow and steady is great. I've always been a fan of long-term thinking and it really only works if you keep working at your goal.
Congrats Matt! You're doing a great job!
Thanks Csaba! Appreciate the encouragement!
Congrats on the milestone! Such an inspirational story!
Thanks Yaro! Appreciate it!
Congrats, Matt! It's well deserved, and I'm excited to see you grow even more.
Your approach to freelancing while working on side projects is one I'm a fan of :)
Thanks Fed!
