Top 5 On-Page SEO Hacks to Boost Your Blog Traffic

Creating excellent content is only half the battle. So, writing good content is just the first step; you don’t necessarily need an SEO degree to optimize your content for search engines. Follow these five simple on-page SEO hacks to optimize your writing and boost your blog traffic. Let’s face it — the struggle is real, but these hacks can make a significant difference.

"Studies suggest optimizing blog posts can result in a 55% increase in traffic, 434% more indexed pages, and 97% more backlinks than non-optimized posts"

[1] Short URLs

  • Embrace the power of concise URLs that make your blog posts more reader-friendly and boost your search engine visibility. Opt for clear, concise versions that convey the content (like this article!). This practical approach makes your URLs more user-friendly and optimizes your blog’s search engine.

"Pro Tip: Avoid including dates or steps in the URL. Future updates will not require URL changes, preventing SEO disruptions."

[2] Image Power: Unlock Search Visibility

  • Search engines can’t “see” images, but alt-text helps them understand the content.
  • Use descriptive alt-text variations of your long-tail keyword to optimize images for search.

[3] The Art of the Meta Description

  • This metadata informs searchers and search engines about your content.
  • Aim for 150–160 characters (longer gets cut off).
  • Write an engaging and relevant description that must include your targeted long-tail keyword.
  • Remember, search engines might rewrite it, so focus on providing valuable information.

[4] Anchor Linking: Building Credibility & User Engagement

  • Link to relevant external sources to support claims or statistics.
  • Link to other helpful blog posts on your site to keep readers engaged and build a content “cluster.”
  • Link to crucial conversion-oriented content for lead generation.

"Pro Tip: Open external links in new tabs to avoid directing users away from your site."

[5] Call to Action (CTA) Magic: Guiding Readers to Next Steps

  • Insert CTAs throughout your post to encourage readers toward desired actions.
  • Consider a passive CTA (hyperlinked text) near the beginning to avoid overwhelming readers.
  • Include image or text CTAs near relevant content in the post body.
  • At the end of each post, offer a clear next step (like a downloadable resource).
  • Explore pop-up CTAs to keep your message visible as users scroll.

"Pro Tip: Text CTAs near the top of your post often see high click-through rates — test it on your blog!"

[Bonus Tip]

  • Bolding key sentences allows readers to grasp the main points quickly, especially for busy readers.
  • A floating table of contents helps users quickly jump to specific sections of interest by providing a constant overview of the content structure.
  • By following these optimization strategies, you can ensure your blog posts are well-equipped to attract readers, improve search ranking, and ultimately drive results for your business.

The hardest thing about B2B is that you're often selling to someone who didn't budget for your category. They need the result you provide but never planned to pay for it.

The products that win here usually create a new budget line (by being categorically new) or steal from existing budget by making the ROI comparison obvious. Which of those are you trying to do?

'Impressions' are OK, but at the end of the day they are vanity metrics. Vanity metrics are numbers that look impressive on the surface but don’t really have any direct effect on your business (e.g. sales etc.). Just saying.

    A few more basics:

    • Add at least 500 words of content ... 1000+ words for competetive keywords
    • Check the top3 results in Google for your keyword and combine what they did in their articles (headings, subtopics, article-length)
    • Put your main keywords into the page-title, the headings, and the meta description
    • Add a FAQ section where ever it makes sense - but as much as possible ... take the questions people actually ask in Google (try this tool: Answer The Public)
    • Add personal experience or an "about the author" section to show, that the human (!) author knows his shi... stuff ;)
    • Make sure that AI detectors like GPTZero don't flag your content as 100% AI-generated ;) Use tools to humanize/paraphrase - like ai-text-humanizer dot cоm.
And: Be patient. Good luck! :)

We have been struggling to effectively get back links out in the wild to help bring additional traffic. High authority sites haven’t been all that responsive to requests for guest posting. Any advice?

    1. 1

@Virwalt, you can hire someone to do Off-page SEO for you. However, if you have the time, I recommend doing some Backlink writing. This involves creating a summary version of your blog and posting it on platforms like LinkedIn, Medium, or IndieHackers. You should start with that. Remember, the quality of your content is also a very important factor here. Otherwise, nothing will work.

      1. 2

Appreciate the response! We have already been posting our stuff across social media, but moving to Medium might be a natural good next step. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing! Just one question I have is how do you know if the meta descriptions are good enough? Can you share an example of an engaging description?

    1. 3

@NewsShare, Sure. Follow these two simple steps: Write it in 160 Characters and include your focus keyword. Remember, meta text is not for your audience; it's for Google. This viewpoint will change the result.

      1. 2

Interesting! I've always been under the impression that it is also for audiences because it will show up on SERP? maybe I've been understanding this wrongly

        1. 1

@NewsShare, It's important to note that while content may be visible in Google searches, it needs to be optimized according to meta text requirements in order to rank in the SERP. Therefore, our main priority should be following these rules to achieve a higher ranking. Adhering to these guidelines not only helps with search engine ranking but also contributes to reader-friendly content, benefiting our audience. I hope this clarifies things.

          1. 1

            Thanks for the clarification!

  14. 2

I think links are extremely important.

    1. 1

@netherhand, of course. In my experience, it's best to avoid using any links that are not relevant to my content, even if they have a high Domain Authority (DA). If you select the right link with the appropriate DA, you can expect to see an increase in your blog's traffic relatively quickly. However, many of my clients who use my writing services fail to understand this. They believe that any high DA link will work.

  15. 2

Great insights! I'll try using the floating table of contents in my tool ToolBun
