I am gathering this data from growthranker.com to evaluate startup growth, both in revenue and traffic.
Holding the top positions this week so far are some very promising startups. They offer insight into what makes a successful and lasting project. These startups include:
Ghost - Professional Publishing Platform (Creator, John O’Nolan @johnonolan)
Qonflux - Subscription Based Website Maintenance, Backup & Monitoring (Founder, Shabhankarkahali @shabhankarkahali)
Gumroad - Super Simple ecommerce for Creators (Founder, Sahil Lavingia @sahil)
Investor Hunt - A database of 40k+ investors to raise your seed round (Founder, Matt Henderson @matthenderson)
Ghost holds the top position in the highest revenue increases at $7,846 this week. Their MRR is currently at $143,547. As they state on their homepage, “Ghost is an open source adaptable platform for building and running a modern online publication. They power blogs, magazines, and journalists from Zappo to Sky News.” My immediate thought when reading this was, “This sounds an awfully lot alike wordpress”. I got a little skeptical but noticed they had a page in which they address this. Ghost addresses their similarities, but also their differences and why you should switch. Reason’s include simplicity, built-in SEO and social, automated publication set-up, and Ghost is faster and more affordable. They seem to have an edge on their competitors and it shows. Some of their selling points are that they are open source, streamlined and easy to use, non-profit, and have a solid customer base already. They really wanted to drive home the point that they are non-profit, as they mention that they are an open book and want to keep their company pure. For example, they make all their company metrics public. If you want to find out more about their features, you can find a complete list here: https://ghost.org/feature-index/
Qonflux holds the top position in the highest revenue percentile increases at 389% this week. Their MRR is currently at $420. This may seem like something of a fluke, but they received their first paying customer in June of this year. Their climb upward seems to be flattening out. Although that is promising news, I hope it translates into their website design in the future. The layout wasn’t especially usable or comfortable. The text and sizing of visual elements were too large and spacing was eclectic. But they did convey their message relatively concisely, which is a major pro. Qonflux purports to optimize your website, perform updates and repairs, and ensure security. They also claim to save you money when compared to doing it all yourself, this is through managed support, google web hosting, global CDN, and daily nightly backups. Finally, they allow you to cancel your subscription at any time.
Gumroad holds the top position in the highest traffic increases at 53,322 this week. Their monthly visits are at 4,995,856. Their numbers aren’t surprising once you understand what they are. I haven’t really ever seen anything like this. It is a simple ecommerce setup through a middleman, which I have seen before, but the focus on creators is the new and interesting part. People more and more are trying to tap into their creative side and provide some product to the world, and Gumroad seems to offer the easiest and simplest way to begin this venture. You can sell digital or physical products and customize nearly every aspect of this selling process. Then, the largest selling point I believe is the analytics and information they give you in order to build your community and customer base. They state that they have sent over $210 million to artists, designers, educators, writers, and influencers. They definitely found a niche that has immense potential. The icing on the cake is their visually appealing and easy to use website.
Investor Hunt is the final startup that will be evaluated. It holds the top position in the highest traffic percentile increases at 330% this week. Their monthly visits are at 3,268. They are a website that has a database of over 45,000 investors in which a user can pay to find an investor that best suits their needs. This one is pretty straight forward, they allow you to go to one location and find all the information you need in order to pitch your startup, rather than going to multiple locations and spending countless hours researching for the perfect investor for your needs. Their website is very easy to use and have many pricing tiers to cater to anyone's price range.
