Trango is a P2P, LAN based Audio, Video Calling and File Sharing WebApp. Cross Platform and Free

Hello Guys,

We were in the same office and needed a fast, simple way to communicate with eachother without coming in close contact (covid 19) and wanted to do that over LAN rather than use tools over the internet NOR use our ancient intercom system.

We created https://web.trango.io ,a LAN based calling and file sharing service. Essentially, you can share files, make video and audio calls to those on the same network as you without having to go through the internet. Your data never leaves your local Wifi. The internet is only used to discover those on the same network as you.

Apart from on-premise use, trango can be a game changer for rural, off the grid areas if deployed locally (self-hosted), enabling thousands of local people to seamlessly connect with eachother without requiring the internet. We are also working on a mobile app so users do not have to open a browser to use the service.

We would like for anyone to take trango for a spin and let us know what they think about it!

Thanking you,
T. Khan

    Hello T Khan,

    Congratulations on your service!
I gave it a try and it worked perfectly across mobiles and laptops.

    Quick feedbacks:

    • Why not working over internet? Is that solely for security issues?
    • Could it work on extended local networks (e.g. in multi-sites companies)?
    • It could be nice to be able to browse the files shared locally by the other users (it seems you can push files but not list/pull them).
    • You could add a chat room to let users interact
    • What are the "Invite" and "Subscribe" buttons for?
    • You should create a landing page. It will help advertise your service and find customer. IH has tons of resources about it.

NB: I had actually just posted on IH about a web based file sharing app (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/use-cases-for-that-innovative-way-of-sharing-files-41c7f69519) and came across your post.
