
Just wanted to share a previous lesson about e-commerce monitoring.
For a long time, I just care about uptime. Green lights across the board! But our sales were mysteriously declining. Turns out, our checkout process was broken. Customers were getting errors, but our system monitoring didn't catch it.
I learned that uptime is just one piece of the whole problem. We need to monitor your transactions. Otherwise, you're flying blind. We had similar pain points before setting up proper tracking. What helped was adding alerts based on drops in transaction volume rather than just technical uptime. We also use a subscription management platform to track failed payments and customer churn in real time, which gives way better visibility into what’s actually happening with the business beyond just server status.
