Transactional emails are tough ๐Ÿ˜ž

Hey IH,

I'm having some trouble.

I'm planning what tech stack and tools I will use for my journaling app GlowAndGrow.

This is what I want accomplished:

1 Send out emails to everyone signed up as a whole about updates to the app, upcoming launches, and other announcements.
2. Send a weekly report to each user individually based on what they included in their journal that week.

For #1, I will probably be using ConvertKit or Mailchimp. That's not my problem.

I just do not know what I should use for #2. I have thought of either using SendGrid or Postmark.

What are your thoughts? What do you use for sending emails to users?

Thanks ๐Ÿ‘‹

Mailgun or Sidemail for #2. Or do both with MailerLite. I switched from Mailchimp to them for my campaigns and they have really good automation tools as well.

      Nice - thanks!

This is called transactional email. Basically, you need a service you can send api requests to, and that service in return sends emails to a specified mailbox.
There are heaps of them like mailgun, sendgrid, postmark, etc.

Ok got it. Would transactional emails work for automated emails to users at the end of every week then?

Yes, that's an appropriate use of transactional email. Think of transactional email as 1-to-1 emails, and marketing emails as 1-to-many.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for your help @shash7 and @stevenkkim!

Thank you so much for the kind offer, @slawekp! I'll be sure to keep that in mind when I start.

Mailgun has always worked very well for me. :)

      Good to know - thanks!

I use SendGrid myself, though if I'm being honest with you I don't really have any good reason. I don't know, most visible option?

If you're interested in coding up your own email markup, I can vouch for MJML

      Thatโ€™s pretty neat! Thanks!
