Trying to Decide on a Lead Magnet

So I have this blog that has been slowly gaining traction. I've had a few posts featured on the home page of Hackernoon. I've gotten a lot of posts in the Code like a Girl publication on Medium as well. I've added a subscription form at the bottom of all of my posts on my website, www.nadyaprimak.com/blog

Originally I was using my book "Foot in the Door" as a lead magnet, and it worked really well buuuut I put a lot of effort into that book and feel like it's substantial enough to sell. I've only been selling it for a month and a half though, so we will see how it goes.

Anyway assuming the book DOES sell I would like to come up with a different lead magnet, since my subscriber count has come to a halt since I stopped offering a lead magnet. I primarily blog about game development, the tech industry, and being a creative coder. I know its a little bit broad and I'm starting to narrow it down more to people just getting started learning to code, but I still want to focus on "creative coding" ideas since I have always had a creative leaning.

Right now I have 3 ideas, but I'm not sure if they are that great.

  • 10 ways to stand out as a creative developer (checklist)
  • How to build a great creative developer portfolio (short ebook)
  • 10 ways to make your creative developer portfolio stand out

Just looking for feedback. Thanks!

Your ideas are nice. They seem to be better distributed as blog posts. I personally like lead magnets that you need to download and get more emails from. A downloadable list (yes you ebooks are downloadable too but nobody reads them once downloaded). And email courses are easy to set up, also get your audience accustomed to getting email from you.

    Here are a few ideas.

A list of over 100 Free resources for Developers: This is easily a csv file on gumroad/simplegoods or a link to a google doc they can copy.

And it can be scaled to any number of niche topics. 100 Free Resources for UI Developers. 100 Free Resources for Game Developers.

4 Day Course on Getting your "Foot in the Door" - make videos with Loom.com and set up an automated email every 24 hours for 4 days. Make each video 5 minutes and talking about a section in the book. 20 minutes of video should be substantially less content in the book. So A) You can promote the book and B) give a bit of info for those who signed up.
And these are insanely easy to produce with Loom and Mailchimp or any email service that sends auto emails once someone signs up.

      Hey Andrew!
I like your idea for the 4 day Loom course but are there any free tools for automated e-mails every 24 hours? I'm using the free version of Mailchimp right now but I believe they don't allow scheduled e-mails like that.

I could definitely do a "100 free resources" type of deal but I do like the idea of funneling people toward my book with the videos a lot, I just am trying to be cautious about spending money on subscriptions unless I feel confident they are worth it.

If u need to do it for free maybe auto emails arent the only way to send. Maybe do the course once a month and have ppl sign up for 3 weeks prior. Or just make a html page with 4 thumbnails and video descriptions... send them to that link.
