Last week to make those epics happen!
Why?
That extra nudge of accountability to achieve even a small step on your IH journey each day.
To join in:
01 Share your epic (a big chunk of work with a meaty objective) you'd like to complete by the end of March.
02 Share what you accomplished yesterday.
03 Share what you commit to accomplishing today.
04 Comment on at least one fellow hacker's progress and give them an IH Point for their check in.
Optional:
05 Share your Work In Progress to underscore your accomplishments.
Then tune in the tomorrow to share how you did on your own tasks!

@jimbol for reaching out for feedback
WIP of the Magnus Rush podcast app and podcast augmenting platform
You seem back to lion mode! How's the non-side hustle stuff going?
It's relentless.. so I need to be smarter and keep the boundaries. Definitely one of the curses of working from home.
EPIC
By end of 2019:
Get 100 paying customers. 0/100 so far
By end of April:

Send out Feedback survey - The one person who responded said she looked for the perfect tracking app for a while but eventually settled on mine and has been using it daily ever since. A positive signal. She liked the customization in particular.

Kudos to @rob_race for pushing on Onboarding - its so important
WIP - Brooklet
That's awesome feedback! How many people took the survey in total?
Uhh 1. I only sent it out to 7 people though. Those were the people who have signed up in the last week. I've had a couple of other people tell me the tool fits their needs well. Those people seem to be using the app every day. Thats where the tool becomes most effective.
In general, I'm seeing decent monthly retention, ~35% of users who signed up in Feb came back in March. I'd like to increase that but I'm also pretty happy with it.

That's it, I need singular focus to get that wrapped up after the day job.
Might put a little time in on a SQL injection lab for class if I can get some time before midnight.
KUDOS: nicely done @rob_race on the release of premium

AutomatedApi.com
How do you intend to balance AutomatedAPI versus Threadbase? (Do you have a full-time gig?)
haha, difficult balance to tease out...still feeling around.
Best answer I can give right now is veeeerry carefully :P
Day job is a serious hindrance right now, but I'm close to dropping it, so there is light on the horizon.

After @louisswiss commented that my site was didn't look quite right on his screen + the ridiculously slow load times, I'm seriously considering rebuilding the site in plain HTML + CSS + JS. Not a fan of WP. The bloat. The constant tinkering with uncertain outcomes... Just not a fan.
But also not a fan of redoing it all. Suggestions?
Just to see how long it would take me, I rebuilt the home page last night. Based on that experiment, I think I could rebuild the site within two weeks. But it would definitely damper my content creation.
TODAY
KUDOS: Congrats to @jpusateri for his new acquisition! Awesome!
Tough call. I would do some work to hard measure the effort vs reward here.
I personally might wait until you know you're going to be staying on the project long term, and know what % of traffic is mobile. Try for some quick fixes. With so many sites running on WP, long loading times shouldn't be the overwhelming factor, have you run a web optimizer against your site to see the slow loads? Something like https://tools.pingdom.com/
Agreed :)
I'm not a fan of WP either, but might be good to fully validate the idea before jumping ship, and with the bloat comes some cool features you can drop in quickly. WP also has the benefit that while using it, you might come up with ideas that solve problems for WP users (something like 25% of all websites?).
All that being said, I'm in love with the idea of static site generators. Guaranteed fast serving, nice structure, and a low learning curve. I was amazed at how fast I got setup with Hugo for the blog, and how easily I was able to use a theme I liked.
I think there are some tools out there to serve WP sites statically. Not sure of the details, but it's another option.
Oh shit. I just brought this up in stand up today! Would love to get your opinion on the questions I asked!
(Smiling) Design is not an issue for me. And I suck at using templates. So any UI frameworks out of the box will be lost on me. At this juncture, I've my own frameworks and methods for tracking assets and CSS. Any of these benefits would be lost on me.
And you're so right about identifying pain points while using WP. Seriously came up with 18 different ideas with the 1 month run in.
I use Bootstrap Studio to make site skeletons, and it helps a lot but is still wonky. I didn't know about Hugo, will check that out!
In terms of what % is mobile... pretty much all of it. I'll come in this month around 83%.
Media queries aren't a problem... in vanilla HTML + CSS. Remember this puppy - happyendin.gs?
And yeah, I've used a couple web analysis tools to critique the speed of my site... F's all around. Easily fixed (or rather avoided) in vanilla HTML + CSS. But I don't relish testing plugins, removing them/finding replacements, etc.
(Sigh.) You can tell I'm leaning heavy on the rebuild. My only hesitancy is how much of a pain in the ass will it be when I managing 100s of posts.
It'll be another month to validate. (The meat of the site will come next month - well the meat during "build audience" phase.) I don't know that I can withstand another month of WP debt.

side note
While at MicroConf I'm focused on doing Epic #2. I want to get my NOs out of the way. That way I know what I'm NOT building.
