Turning a weekend idea into a fun, super cool mini product

That's Oliver Queen, and I seriously hope I haven't failed him!

So the weekend idea in question was something quite simple.

A user uploads an image (or takes one from his phone's/computer's camera), and the system should make that image into a Lego movie style image for him.

What did I use to build the app

The entire build has been made in NuxtJS (Nuxt 2 - I still haven't gathered the courage to migrate to Nuxt3. Typescript scares me, to be honest.)

I am using NuxtJS inbuilt functionalities to power the expressjs backend as well, and using MongoDB for whatever little database functionalities the system needed.

For user authentication, I used the faimilar Firebase Auth - just the Google login module.

Payments are processed via Stripe, and standard Large Language Models are being used for the AI functionalities.

How does the app work?

When a user makes an avatar generation request, the first AI model gets into play. It analyses the image - what key elements are present in the image, what do the subject(s) look like, what they are doing etc etc.

This, along with the base image, is what powers the main AI model that generates the lego-styled brick avatars.

How have the results been so far?

See for yourself: (Adding some of the source images as well. These source images served as the base for the generation.)
All images have been generated by reezavatar.shop

How has the response been so far from the users?

So far, users have used it to generate more than 10,000 images. So that's good. I am thinking of adding more diverse generation scenarios if there is enough demand for it.

How much does it cost?

  • Generating a single image costs $1.50
  • For $20, you can get a 30 credits pack that will allow you to generate 30 images.

For either of these plans, you just pay for the credits and generate the images. Nothing else is needed from your side.

And then there is the Unlimited plan.

You can unlock unlimited generations for a one-time payment of $49, but here you will have to bring your own OpenAI API key.
(OpenAI token charges would be extra and you will be able to manage them from your dashboard. Typically, to generate 100 avatars, your OpenAI bill would be between $5 to $10.)

How can you try it yourself?

Visit reezavatar.shop and start having fun with it. You will have your first image in a matter of minutes.
