Turning Real Photos into Anime: What I’ve Learned (So Far)

Hey Indie Hackers đź‘‹

A few weeks ago, I launched AnimeMyPic, a site that transforms real photos into high-quality anime portraits using AI.

It’s been a fun ride so far — and I wanted to share a few things I’ve learned (and still figuring out):

💡 What’s working:

  • People love the “before/after” format — especially when it's themed (One Piece, Ghibli, etc.)

  • Instagram + Threads are pulling in the most engagement

  • Keeping the anime styles recognizable (but original) builds trust

🧠 What I’m still working on:

  • Increasing conversions from visits to paid

  • Better onboarding and preview UX

  • Finding communities that love anime and novelty AI products

Would love feedback from the community:

  • What would make you try something like this?

  • Where do you go when looking for fun AI tools?

  • How do you make “cool” also profitable?

Happy to answer questions or exchange notes with other AI builders!
