I think the biggest 'tip' is to approach twitter for networking. Not focusing publishing and building an audience, necessarily.

If you're aiming for more reach, It mostly depends on your follower count. Think of twitter like a give and take platform. The more effort you put into the plartform the more you get. If your account is below 1000 for example, you need to focus on making 'true fans'. This is done by commenting on other people post(in the same niche ofcourse) and sending personalised messages to your new followers. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
