Twitter Newb. Should I post from my personal or business account?

I've seen a few people mention their success growing their audience on Twitter. For example, the whole "build in public" thing. I'd like to hop on that train, but should I be posting from my personal account or my business account? My personal account probably comes off as more authentic and less corporate, but my business account is directly tied to my brand. Perhaps I should use both, but it's a bit awkward if they're both posting the same content.

Can you do both? Business about product news, features, engaging with customers.

Personal about what you're building, struggles, why you're building it.

You could retweet personal stuff when appropriate for your brand. And the reverse, posting brand stuff from personal when appropriate.

For instance. You worked on the XYZ feature.

On the brand page you say: XYZ feature is coming. For details about implementation see: -link to personal tweet -

    Then on personal:
Many tweets such as: currently building feature XYZ for @brand.

Struggling with that Js thingy. Documentation is awful 😞.

Ok I figured this out. It's not that bad.

    Blah blah blah.

Anyone wants a sneak peek at what is coming for @brand.

I agree, both is probably better. But which did you have more success with? If you don't mind sharing, how many followers does your business account have and how many does your personal have? I'm curious if one is significantly more powerful than the other.

I am currently doing both for one month, and a personal account gains three times more followers than a "corporate" one.
Many followers come from engaging in conversations, and for that, I use a personal account only.
Using a personal account helps you a lot to be much more authentic, and people prefer to engage with people, not brands.

This is super interesting and helpful. Thank you!

I haven't done it yet. I just feel like this would be more authentic. If you ever sell your brand you would keep your personal account.

Some people want the whole story. Others will just want the solution you bring. Which is why I proposed that.

But when I start Twitter this will be my approach.

Personally, I've avoided creating a business Twitter for wrap.so.

    Here's why:

    • You'll need to create twice as much content, or split content between accounts.
    • People resonate with people. Engagement on business profiles tends to be lower.
    • It allows you to focus on building your personal profile

The only downside is around discoverability i.e. people searching for your business name on Twitter. It's not enough of a factor for me to create and start posting from a business account, however.

Agree with @martdi, use the business brand as more of a marketing tool, we've released feature x type stuff, and your personal one as a more personal approach, as what part of the project you are working on, what's going well, what's not going well, sneak peak behind the scenes possibly on what you are doing.

You can retweet your personal project tweets from the business brand as well, is something i do, whether it works a huge amount I don't know, but might be worth a try and see if it works for you.
