Elon Musk announced that Twitter will change its name and logo to "X". I guess he will also use the x.com domain name for this job.
So, what do you think about this, what kind of an effect does the change of the name of a platform known as Twitter for years have on users.
It'll just go down faster
Unfortunately, this might now be a reality...

I trust Elon will find a way to give people a positive mindset about the name. Besides, I feel that they are studying people's take on the name, and they may be planning to transform Twitter into something more than just tweeting. We're gonna miss the verb "tweet".
Certainly, Twitter had a different place with us.
I'm sorry– I love Elon, but I feel he's moving impulsively. It's not thought out; the logo was taken from a comment and isn't really that great; on top, the API still isn't fully fixed, and I've often experienced bugs both visual and UX-wise that I myself can fix.
All-in-all, such a big rebrand of an established brand shouldn't be taken lightly. I'd tread more carefully and asses how to actually improve the platform, step-by-step, with industry experts.
Just my two cents.
As a fan of Elon Musk myself, I also admire his boldness and innovative approach to things, but I agree that sometimes it might seem like he moves impulsively.
Just playing devil's advocate here to provide the other side the debate.
The fact that the API has issues really has nothing to do with the logo. These are entirely separate problems most likely being worked on by different groups of people.
Elon's MO when it comes to marketing is to do things out of the ordinary and garners lots of free media attention. Taking the logo from a comment seems pretty consistent with this and it seems to be working.
Lastly, I'm curious why such a big rebrand of an established brand shouldn't be taken lightly. It seems right on the surface, but when I think about it more deeply I'm not sure consulting "industry experts" would really achieve anything.
It seems pretty apparent that Elon purchased Twitter as a stepping stone to X. He's been dreaming of building this X company for years. Maybe it'll suck and fail, but one thing is for sure, he doesn't do things by half measures.
Duh🤦 what a great use of $40B
Honestly, in a few months I think twitter will be overtaken by Threads if Meta updates it to have the very basic features of a social media.
he is killing twitter so bad
Increased Visibility: Open source projects are accessible to a broader audience, as the source code is freely available for anyone to view, use, and contribute to. This increased visibility can attract more users, developers, and contributors who find value in the project.
Community Engagement: Open source projects often foster vibrant communities around them. Users and developers can interact, share ideas, and collaborate to improve the project. A strong and engaged community helps to build momentum and encourages others to join in.
Transparency and Trust: By being open source, a project gains trust from users and potential contributors. Transparency in the development process, codebase, and decision-making helps establish credibility and reduces barriers to adoption.
Rapid Iteration and Improvement: With a diverse community of contributors, open source projects can experience rapid iteration and continuous improvement. Bug fixes, new features, and optimizations can be contributed by various individuals, leading to a more dynamic and evolving product.
Peer Review and Quality: Open source projects often benefit from thorough peer review. The more eyes looking at the codebase, the higher the chances of identifying bugs and security vulnerabilities, leading to a more robust and reliable product.
Lower Barriers to Entry: Open source encourages inclusivity, as anyone can contribute, regardless of their background or affiliation. This creates a level playing field and allows talent from various communities to participate.
Word-of-Mouth Marketing: Satisfied users and contributors are likely to spread the word about an open source project they find valuable. Positive testimonials and recommendations can lead to organic growth and increased adoption.
Integration and Compatibility: Open source projects are often designed to be interoperable and can be easily integrated with other tools and platforms. This flexibility attracts developers and organizations seeking compatibility with their existing systems.
Adoption by Organizations: Many organizations prefer open source solutions due to the transparency, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to customize and adapt the software to their specific needs. This can lead to significant adoption and support from businesses and institutions.
Contributor Recognition: Open source projects typically give credit and recognition to their contributors. This acknowledgement can be a powerful motivator for individuals to get involved and contribute their expertise to the project.
Overall, the open source approach offers numerous advantages that can help a project gain traction and build a strong and loyal user base. It is essential to foster an inclusive and welcoming community and provide the necessary support and documentation to encourage continued growth and success.
Changing the name of a well-established platform like Twitter after all these years could have various effects on users and the overall community. It would be great to hear more insights and thoughts from you or others about what this rebranding means for the future of the platform and how users might perceive and adapt to this change.
I think the guy is bored
the code report made a funny video about the dead bird... I would like to post the link but I am still a noob :'-( i trust you guys can find it yourself
No one is excited about X besides him. A bad sign from the user base
When he had X originally, he wanted it to be the "financial everything" site. If you look at the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Sina Weibo - it does much much more than twitter including payments, loans - finance. It is also exponentially more profitable than twitter - I suspect this is where it's heading. X will be a very different beast to twitter.
I don't think it's just a good name, and I don't know why it was changed
I can't stop thinking about what we will replace "tweet" with.
There will be x all over the show!
Me too. We will see together.
As much as I dislike him sometimes, I think he has big plans for this. I don't think this is a new idea for him. https://twitter.com/Rene_Remsik/status/1683367897345687554?s=20
We'll see!
