Hi Indie Hackers,
I’m a web developer and I have two ideas for a tech start up that I want to share with you and get your feedback. I’m looking for a problem that I can solve with my skills and passion, and that has a potential to reach 10k MRR.
IDEA 1: A service that monitors your website and alerts you if it goes down
As a web developer, I know how frustrating and costly it can be when your website goes down and you don’t know about it. You can lose customers, revenue, and reputation. That’s why I want to create a service that monitors your website 24/7 and alerts you via email, SMS, or phone call if it goes down. You can also get reports on your website’s performance, uptime, and downtime history.
The service would be simple to use: you just enter your website URL, choose your alert preferences, and pay a monthly fee based on the number of websites you want to monitor. The service would use multiple servers around the world to check your website’s availability and response time.
The target market for this service would be small and medium-sized businesses, freelancers, and bloggers who rely on their websites for their income and reputation. The value proposition would be to save them time, money, and stress by ensuring their websites are always online and accessible.
IDEA 2: A service that checks your email list for validity, spam, and deliverability
I know how important email marketing is for any business. It’s one of the most effective and affordable ways to reach your audience, build trust, and generate sales. However, email marketing also comes with some challenges, such as:
Having invalid or outdated email addresses in your list that bounce back and hurt your sender reputation
Having spammy or low-quality email addresses in your list that lower your open and click rates and increase your spam complaints
Having deliverability issues that prevent your emails from reaching your subscribers’ inboxes
That’s why I want to create a service that checks your email list for validity, spam, and deliverability. You can upload your email list, and the service will scan it for:
Syntax errors, typos, and formatting issues
Disposable, temporary, and role-based email addresses
Spam traps, honeypots, and blacklisted domains
Hard and soft bounces, spam complaints, and unsubscribes
Inbox placement, sender score, and authentication
The service will then give you a detailed report on your email list quality, and suggest ways to improve it. You can also download your cleaned and verified email list, and use it for your email campaigns.
The target market for this service would be online businesses, e-commerce stores, SaaS companies, and agencies who use email marketing as a core part of their marketing strategy. The value proposition would be to increase their email deliverability, engagement, and conversion rates by ensuring their email list is clean and high-quality.
Which One Should I Choose?
These are my two ideas for a tech start up. I think they both have a potential to solve a real problem and generate revenue. But I’m not sure which one to pursue first. That’s why I need your help.
Which one of these ideas do you think is more useful and has more potential to reach 10k MRR? Why? What are the pros and cons of each idea? What are the challenges and risks involved? How would you validate and market each idea?
Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments. I appreciate your input and support. Thank you! 😊
