Back in Nov '20, and while thinking through a small idea, I somehow found my way to IndieHackers and discovered the #buildinpublic movement on Twitter.
It's one thing to talk about the wins. But a completely different thing to publicly talk about your small wins, let alone the failures. And when you're a small-time maker who's just starting out, I can tell you it's downright nerve-wracking.
Case in point: about a month after starting in earnest, Metronome got its first paying user who took up our Starter podcast landing page plan, for a one-time fee of $20. I was super stoked when that purchase email came in, but was seriously doubting whether I would even dare mention it on Twitter.
$20 is such a miniscule figure, compared to the other makers you see pulling in $XXXX a couple days after launch. Which, you have to admit, you do compare yourself to even though common sense says not to do it.
But I refuse to see the quantum as something that stops me from talking about it. Because god damn it, the $20 means something to me :)
So here's my publicly-made account of my Metronome journey so far. Including some gaffes I made along the way.
This is awesome!
