Gaaaaaaah I'm freakin out a bit here! We're two weeks away from launching the web version of Benchmark.app and it is Wracking my Nerves!
The impostor syndrome is hitting hard. You know, the feeling that you're not good enough, that you have no business trying to do what you're trying to do, and feeling embarrassed to talk about yourself or your business in any way whatsoever.
I wanted to share something I've learned about it over the years. How to quash it when it rears it's ugly head.
The best way to overcome impostor syndrome... is results.
I may not have 10k Twitter followers, or thousands of users, or tons of SEO traffic yet.
But what I do have is results.
I have a few dozen people who got the beta version of Benchmark, and their reviews are inspiring. The app works.
I created a quiz on the website to try and get people who visit some quick insights on their business. People are taking the quiz and learning more about their business.
Wherever you are in the process of building in public, share the results. Share stories where you created value for people. Show people how your business or product makes their lives better.
It's not just about sharing numbers for your business and the milestones you hit. What resonates more is the results you're getting for others.
The best part? You can go and get someone a result right now. DM them, email them, offer to help them get the result they care about.
Then, once you've done that a few times, then you can build systems and products around that value, and automate it and sell it.
That's all it is. Get people results, share the results, make it easier to get people results.
If you're freaking out about your product, or launch, or marketing, or sales - just go out and get results.
That's where Benchmark came from - I wanted to help founders and creators grow their businesses. I was doing that over lunches with my creative friends, and then through coaching, and then realized patterns that would help everyone I talked with. So I put it into a product. Now here we are.
Whenever I start getting worked up about the HUGE task of a product launch, I think back to the results I've helped others get - doubling their business, creating new revenue streams, and understanding what data and metrics matter most in their business - and it helps me focus on what this is all about after all - helping and serving people you care enough about to help and serve.
Hope this helps!
