Marketing Day on My Journey to
100 Attempts to Solopreneur Success
I'm discovering more about marketing than ever before. My approach?
Try everything without obsessing over results. This journey won't be smooth—it's bound to be full of ups and downs on bumpy roads. But I'm not here to play it safe. I'm here to move forward with calculated risks.
What's the worst that could happen? I might lose some savings, but the learning I'll gain from these small investments will likely surpass what I'd get from a traditional MBA program.
Speaking of which, let me plug my 4th attempt: http://MADMBA.com - a course specifically for mobile app developers.
Why this niche? Because I've been in mobile app development for 13-14 years and managed to grow my income 7x in just one year. While the knowledge in this course could benefit anyone looking to boost their income, my examples are rooted in mobile apps.
Now, back to marketing. I recently watched Sabri Suby's YouTube video "17 Years of Marketing Advice in 46 Mins" (catchy title, right? I want to learn that skill).
One thing that struck me was his answer to a question I've been asking myself: which ideas should I pursue?
Suby's insight: "We can either do marketing by Capturing Demand or Generating Demand."
The cost of acquiring users in Demand Capturing markets is lower compared to Demand Generation, but the latter is a longer game. Since I want to feed my dopamine sooner, I'm leaning towards catering to users through Demand Capture.
My initial product ideas will mostly be improved versions of existing products in mature markets, rather than trying something entirely new. However, towards the end of my "100 Attempts to Solopreneur Success"—maybe the last 20 attempts—I want to venture into Demand Generation. I hope that by the 80th attempt, I'll have enough cash to experiment with generating demand for one of my products, and see people use it happily.
I hope you enjoy hearing my thoughts.
