Update to "I have a competitor and feel outmatched" (now I am as big as they were)

Back in September I posted on IndieHackers. I was hopeless about a new huge competitor that seemed funded and/or more experienced:

"They have 5000+ users (i have ~150) which they seem to have gotten in a small time. And $300,000+ in transactions and (I have ~$1000)."

"Is it possible to survive as a self taught dev mostly-solofounder? I feel way outmatched."

I thought we were doomed but...

Today, we have 300k in all time transactions and we have 3400 users!!! All bootstrapped.

This is about the size my Goliath competitor was when I was scared of them.

Our competitor has grown very large too- millions and millions in transactions and 50k+ users. But it hasn't stopped us. Some people use both of us. Some left them for us. Of course, some prefer them too.

It was important for our progress to emphasize our differences in our marketing and not try to be a copy of them. Differentiate when you have a competitor you can't compete with.

The positive sum game is the best thing in the world. The reason why entrepreneurship is so great. You don't have to compete for the "winner takes all, the rest lose". Everyone can win.

    » Positive-sum game «

A game where the total gains and losses is greater than zero.
It's a game where everyone wins.
Great entrepreneurs are notoriously good at picking these.

Fear can be a great motivation! Seems like it worked for you, congratulations 🥳
