Updating a 2-year-old product. 🚀

• I had a chrome extension I launched 2 years ago and then forgot about it
• Had over 600 weekly users
• No longer worked, so I fixed it

Twitter Interactions is a chrome extension I built around August of 2017. It allows you to see all of the interactions you've had with another user on Twitter.

In 2017 it shot up on ProductHunt and was installed a bunch of times. After the initial launch day, I just ignored it.

Whilst working on a fun little extension a few days ago, I noticed that the extension had over 600 weekly users and some people had left me some feedback, all of which were saying that it no longer worked with the new Twitter design.

I had quite a few issues trying to upgrade the product, here are a few:

1. Not having the source code 🤦‍♂️

• I didn't put it on GitHub and I didn't have it anywhere on my laptop
• Luckily all chrome extensions are sitting unpackaged on your computer, it's just a matter of finding them

2. Twitter used to be SSR, it no longer is

• V1 of the extension worked completely on the browser as I was able to fetch the HTML of the /search page - this no longer worked as the content needed javascript to render
• I had to build a serverless function that would return the IDS of all the tweets between 2 users and then the extension would fetch the actual tweet objects using the Twitter API.

3. Dark Mode.

• You can set 3 different display themes on the new Twitter Design. Light more, dark more and even darker mode (Not their actual names)
• Took me a while to work out what CSS classes were for which theme and where they should be placed
