Use an .ai domain for a non Artificial Intelligence project?

Hey @eyk I have done the same at https://flowdash.ai.
The thinking behind this was -

1. The .com was taken by a YC company already but I really liked the name. So i bought it.
2. Validated my idea first with an MVP that a market exists for this.
3. Then I bought the useflowdash.com domain so I will be moving it to that later on. You could add "join" or "get" to the domain name & see if you can get the .com.

End of the day I think name matters but what matters more is PMF. Zoom started with a .us domain & not .com. Notion still is on .so.

If it really sounds cool the users will think hey cool and not care about whether it's AI or not :)

From a logical standpoint, sure, ai is the TLD of Anguilla(British overseas territory) so of course. However the hype has blown out of proportion and these days any kitchen blender uses AI apparently(yay for the appalling world of false advertising and desperate attempts at marketing). Which personally annoys me and I click away from such pages without going any further. But other than that I don't see why not, I don't mind a kitchen blender or air fryer having a .ai domain so long as it isn't being advertised as AI.

Having a cool memorable name is much more important than whatever is after the dot of your domain. It's also a great way for a Indiehacker to get a cool domain for very few money. Apart from perhaps the ".org" (non-profit only) and ".xxx" (do I need to explain?) domains, my advice is: Go for it.
