User research - Passion Economy startup

Hey everyone! I'm currently building a product within the passion economy and would love to talk to people involved or interested in the space to learn more about your pain points and the types of solutions you're looking for.

If you're free and would be interested in connecting at any point for a chat, just comment here and I'll get in touch with you.

Thanks!

Hey, I'm working on a different idea but somewhat similar. Drop my a line if you want. Email is in the bio.

    what problem are you solving?

    1. 2

Solving the problem of learning through materials that we don't find entertaining. The biggest obstacle to learning is motivation and consistency, and the biggest cause of the lack for that is not finding the learning materials interesting and entertaining.

So, I'm building a learning platform where users can learn skills by watching and studying scenes from movies & tv shows. The goal is to engage users more and help users memorise concepts more easily and more effectively than any other method

        you said:

👆🏻 — how did you figure this out? because, i don't agree at all.

Interesting. I talked to around 12 people so far and that's what Ive arrived at so far - maybe there might be some confirmation bias because those are the struggles I come across as well.

But would be very interested to hear about what you think the main problems around learning soft skills are. Would be more than happy to jump on a call to chat as well, but if not, just some comments here would be super helpful!

i have a background in education (and some successful startups) which has helped me realize that only the most motivated, equipped, and privileged folks can use their own "motivation and consistency" to learn and self-teach.

... the rest of us need relationships and community.

            1. 2

Interesting - I have to disagree. I don't have a background teaching but have taught myself finance from scratch (my previous job was as an investment analyst for 2yrs) and didn't have a community or relationships. It was being consistent and having a clear goal that helped me. And loads of trial and error.

But I see your point. I really believe community is a critical part of learning.

Consistency to me is available to everyone and probably the hardest thing, where most of the advantage in anything lies.

                you proved my point. lol.

Well, I'm happy for you then.

I'm not pretending to have all the answers - hence, my post asking for conversations. But thanks for the thoughtful feedback.

                    it's just funny, right?

                    i say:

only the super-motivated / privileged / gifted folks can teach themselves ("bootstrap" is what it's called) stuff... it's partly economics, social, culture, geography, and background, etc...

otherwise, you need help and folks to get you to the next level.

                    you say:

I don't have a background teaching but have taught myself finance from scratch (my previous job was as an investment analyst for 2yrs) and didn't have a community or relationships.

... which essentially aligns with my point above! you're one of the "lucky" or privileged few who can teach yourself and build yourself a future...

you didn't need relationships / community to get to where you are! but, MOST PEOPLE DO.

                    you said:

Consistency to me is available to everyone and probably the hardest thing, where most of the advantage in anything lies.

... and this is where we may have the most technical disagreement.

i believe that you're saying that:

"consistency" (and "motivation") is what is fundamentally missing...

                    and i say:

"relationships" and "community" is what is fundamentally missing...

i think we're clear now, right?

this has been a fun chat. thanks for it!

i hope it's provided some clarity.

this sounds all sorts of wrong why do you have to be "privileged" or "gifted" to teach yourself something
