User retention after monetization

I co-founded and help run WriteMore.io, a online journal that helps encourage people to write every day. We've been totally free since launching and plan to keep it that way until we reach 3000-4000 sign ups (right now we are at about 500). I should also add that it's not really an option for us to add a free tier based on our product

I was curious to know what other founders have experienced with monetization? How many of your users stayed once you charged a subscription fee?

Ok, Here are my 2 cents on how you can monetize it by packaging your product a little bit different.

    1. Introduce an Accountability service similar to Stickk - to encourage users to be more accountable for everyday writing. Nothing motives peopled like losing money.
2)Integration with Twitter - Give them away to publish their thoughts on Twitter.
    2. You can integrate some incredible vector graphics images and have them create DIY Bullet Journal.
Keep your basic Journal app free, offer these addons, and charge them. Hope this helps!
